ARUP Laboratories Genetic Counselor, Support Specialist I in Salt Lake City, Utah

Schedule : Monday - Friday (40 hrs/wk)8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (+/- an hour)Position is remote
Primary Purpose :
Assist and provide support services to the genetic counseling team within multiple genetic subspecialties at ARUP. Duties include basic client services, case management, data handling, internal and external communication, documentation, providing consultation services and serving as a resource to clients and internal departments regarding genetic tests offered at ARUP. Works in conjunction with the genetic counselors. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of clinical and genetic testing principals.

Essential Functions :
Provides basic client services, including fielding incoming client requests from multiple forms of communication, adding fax/call requests to test orders, and maintaining client and provider relations.
Assists in case management, including follow-up phone calls, requesting additional information, and supporting appropriate test ordering.
Relays test results for high priority cases.
Serves as a resource to clients and internal ARUP departments regarding genetic tests offered at ARUP.
Assembles, enters, and reports data from various sources into databases of genetic information.
Provides education about genetic diseases, testing options, and the role of genetic counselors in a laboratory to clients, health care providers, and ARUP employees.
Aids in data collection as requested by the Genetic Counselors.
Complies with safety regulations as defined by ARUP policy.
Handles confidential materials or data for the group.
Masters all necessary applications and programs.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical and Other Requirements :
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
Color Vision: Perception of and ability to distinguish colors
Qualifications
Education
Required
- Associates Degree or better in Biological, Chemical, or Scientific Field
Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree or better in Biological, Chemical, or Scientific Field
Experience
Required
Associate’s degree or equivalent college coursework in a Bachelor’s program and two years of experience in a clinical or laboratory genetics setting Or Bachelor’s degree in related field of study
Good computer skills, including word processing, Adobe, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred
Genetics focused education
One year of experience in Genetics at ARUP
