State of Utah - Jobs Emerging Contaminants Coordinator in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Program Coordinator position in the Division of Drinking Water. * Please note: This position may become eligible for full-time,career service dependent upon funding.* Job Description

  • Program Coordinator for the Division s PFAS Compliance and Emerging Contaminants programs. This will include coordinating the Division s technical and financial assistance programs for public water systems to test for and remediate PFAS and other emerging contaminants and receiving,tracking,reviewing,and uploading sample results. This may also include assisting public water systems with actual sampling.
  • Assist the Davison s Emerging Contaminants Scientist with administrative support associated with compliance and other ancillary programs. This includes assistance with drafting and sending letters,archiving documents,and outreach to public water systems.
  • Assist Division staff with creating and implementing programs related to emerging contaminants,including Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR),PFAS,harmful algal blooms (HABs),and manganese.
  • Facilitate resolutions and provide exceptional service,technical support,and expertise to public water systems through courteous and professional communication,responding to incoming questions or complaints.

*Ideal Candidate * The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Possesses thorough knowledge of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and Utah s Drinking Water Administrative rules and the ability to interpret and implement the Act and rules.
  • Experience with stakeholder coordination and program coordination.
  • Ability to create,track,and manage multiple processes and datasets in Microsoft Excel,Access,and other databases.
  • Knowledge of principles,theories,and practices of environmental response and remediation.
  • Ability to solve a problem by using logic to identify key facts,explore alternatives,and propose quality solutions.
  • Deliver presentations or training to audiences of differing backgrounds using acceptable methods and techniques.
  • Deal with people in a manner that shows sensitivity,tact,and professionalism.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement,contribute to collaborating environment,and promote coordination within project team.

Preferences

  • Bachelor s degree in science,public health,environmental studies,or related fields from an accredited university OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and paid professional employment directly related to the above tasks.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in environmental science,environmental/public health,or regulatory enforcement.

Starting Wage The expected starting wage for this position will be between 21.47 to 25.00 per hour. Work Schedule This position will start out as a part-time Schedule TL (term-limited) with benefits: Candidate should be able to work between 20 to 30 hours a week for the first six months. It is expected that this position will eventually become full-time and may be eligible for a Career Service Schedule B,position dependent upon funding. Work Location This position may be performed remotely from within the State of Utah for the majority of tasks; however,in-office work will be required fairly regularly. Our office is located 195 North 1950 West,Salt Lake City,Utah. A position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.  Note: Under Administrative Rule R13-4 all work must be performed within the State of Utah.
