Job Summary

U Career Success is comprised of a dynamic team of coaches, employer relations managers, and marketing and events professionals aspiring together to help students achieve their optimal career objectives. We are seeking individuals to expand our efforts to reach each U of U student from every major and discipline.

Depending upon specialty area, auxiliary career coaches may guide students through career preparation that runs the gamut from exploration, personal branding (resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles), applying for jobs and internships, interviewing and networking skills, finally leading to compensation negotiation for early-stage careers.

This auxiliary position is designed for mid- to late-stage and retired professionals who enjoy working with the college-aged students who will benefit from their own career experience and accumulated wisdom.

The ideal candidate is passionate about student success, comfortable with change and innovation, collaborative and supportive, has a strong client services orientation, a desire to succeed in placement metrics, and a high level of professionalism

Responsibilities

  • Assists students with preparing resumes, interviewing skills, and searching for jobs electronically.

  • Utilizes department platforms such as Salesforce, Excel, Qualtrics, Acuity, and Handshake in working with students and colleagues.

  • Outreach to students and recent graduates by phone, email, social media, and/or in person to assist in job search process and obtain placement information.

  • Maintains accurate data and produces statistical reports on job placement, salaries, recruitment activities, and other information with strong detail and organizational skills. Assists in preparing and publishing annual reports.

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required plus three years of experience in occupational or career counseling or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Demonstrated high level of accountability for meeting performance metrics. Curious and flexible with an excellent work ethic.

Preferences

  • 5+ years of occupational experience preferred.

  • 3+ years of formal or informal mentoring experience.
