Assistant Attorney General - Internet Crimes Against Children

The Justice Division of the Utah Attorney General's Office has an immediate opening for a prosecuting attorney dedicated to protecting child victims of internet-facilitated sex crimes as part of the Family Justice Section,Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Our Task Force places priority on a prosecuting attorney who is professionally committed to making a difference in the community through diligent and ethical prosecution of these important cases. As a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force,the selected attorney will handle cases involving child sex abuse material,enticement of a minor,dealing in material harmful to a minor,and other sexual offenses against children. 

 

The selected attorney will have the opportunity to travel throughout the State of Utah to prosecute these cases and provide training throughout the State. This position requires exposure to police reports containing graphic sexual content and child sex abuse material. Criminal prosecution experience would be valued,but training and mentorship will be provided as necessary to develop the selected attorney into an elite prosecuting attorney. The attorney selected for this position will have the opportunity to participate and advise in state and federal investigations and prosecutions. The selected attorney may have the opportunity in the future to prosecute federal crimes as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. The selected attorney may also have the opportunity to be involved in legislative efforts to further the mission of the Task Force. 

 

In their cover letter,applicants should clearly describe their motivation for prosecution of these cases and any experience advocating for victims or prosecuting cases in criminal court. The selected attorney will be expected to litigate issues in State district court and conduct jury trials as necessary. Prior experience is beneficial,but training and mentorship will be provided to attorneys with less experience. 

 

Salary is dependent on the applicant's Utah State Bar admission date.
