Tool Grinding Specialist Apprentice

DEPARTMENT: Toolroom

STATUS: Full-time Exempt

REPORTS TO: Tool Room Manager

Position Summary: This position will complete a multi stage 18 month apprenticeship to develop the necessary grinding skills to achieve optimal levels of quality, productivity, safety.

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with tool grinding specialists to complete functional tools, cutting tools, broaches, dies from detailed prints.

  • Learn the process of production prove-out of new tooling.

  • Learn to maintain cutting tools, broaches, etc.

  • Use of specialized tool and cutter grinders.

  • Design and manufacture holding devices necessary to manufacture tooling.

  • Perform responsibilities in accordance with all company standards, policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in Machine Technology, equivalent preferred.

  • 1-3 years CNC and Manual Machining experience.

  • Demonstrated achievements in a Machining environment.

  • Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and implement projects in a timely manner.

  • Basic operational knowledge of Saw, Lathe, Bridgeport, Mill, Surface Grinder.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Normal, corrective vision range; ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols.

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, bend and reach.

  • Ability to reach with hands and arms.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to remain seated for periods of time while working on a computer or documentation, etc.

  • Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment.

  • Must be capable of viewing data on a computer screen and/or in paper format.

  • Ability to interact with a diversity of people and diverse levels of personnel.
