Position

The CAN Council Forensic Nurse Manager will be a highly motivated, flexible, and patient-focused Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). The role requires comfort and success with public speaking, recruiting and training nurses, collaborating with professionals across multiple disciplines, and a commitment to maintaining current knowledge of local, state, and national policies and laws related to sexual assault nurse examinations and National Children's Alliance (NCA) medical examinations.

Reporting to the CAN Council Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) Program Director and Medical Advisor, the Forensic Nurse Manager will operate within the CAN Council Saginaw office and provide expert testimony during court proceedings. This is a part-time position with regular weekly commitments comprising an 8-hour day at the CAN Council Saginaw office. All on-site medical examinations (either at the CAN Council Saginaw office or at emergency rooms) are completed as a contractor and billed for separately from this 8-hour employee position.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, and support Forensic Nurses
  • Oversee/audit the training and continuing education of Forensic Nurses
  • Facilitate regular meetings amongst the Forensic Nurses to ensure consistent communication
  • Provide ongoing training and peer review opportunities to Forensic Nurses
  • Assist and support Forensic Nurses who are preparing to testify in court
  • Ensure compliance with NCA medical standards
  • Attend Case Review meetings to provide medical perspective to other professionals as required by NCA standards
  • Provide medical examination training as needed to Multi-Disciplinary Team members, community stakeholders, universities and hospitals
  • Develop policies and procedures for the medical program (i.e., preceptorship requirements, exam completion, testifying, etc.)
  • Maintain up-to-date file information for all nurse licensure, liability insurance, initial and ongoing training, etc.
  • Maintain and update Clinical Lab Log
  • Meet with the Medical Advisor and CAC Program Director as required by NCA standards
  • Collect and maintain data regarding Forensic Nurses activities for grant reporting
  • Other job duties as defined by CAC Program Director and Medical Advisor and as time allows

Qualifications

  • Current SANE-P nurse or SANE-P trained nurse
  • Current Nurse licensure with the state of Michigan
  • Earn annual CEU requirements per licensure and NCA standards
  • Maintain liability and malpractice insurance coverage at required amounts
