GENERAL SUMMARY:

Saginaw Public Schools Academic Interventionists are responsible for assisting with the delivery of instructional services for eligible students in the remedial Title I program.  Responsibilities include instruction of students, student discipline, planning, preparation of materials, testing and record keeping.

  6. Ability to schedule activities and/or meetings
  7. Ability to gather and/or collate data
  8. Ability to solve problems by identifying issues and creating action plans
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality
  10. Ability to work with constant interruptions
  11. Ability to communicate effectively both written and oral
  12. Ability to work in a multi-cultural, urban setting and develop a rapport with students, staff, parents and the school community

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Adapt lessons to support and/or reinforce classroom objectives
  2. Administer tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. to support teachers in the instructional process
  3. Assist students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments to practice and/or reinforce learning concepts and assist students in reaching their academic goals and grade level standards
  4. Confer with teachers and/or parents by providing input into the evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing/modifying students' objectives
  5. Implement, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans to assist the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study
  6. Maintain classroom equipment, work area, students' files/records to identify required assistance and ensure a safe and positive learning environment
  7. Perform record keeping and clerical functions to support the teacher and/or to provide necessary records/materials
  8. Respond to emergency situations and immediately resolve safety concerns and/or direct concerns to appropriate personnel for resolution
  9. Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire information relative to these job functions
  10. Perform other duties as assigned

     

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Education or relevant field preferred
  2. Associate's Degree in Child Development or relevant field required
  3. Previous classroom experience preferred
  4. Knowledge of Math/Science and Reading subject areas

     

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Individual(s) will be expected to pass both a Math and Reading Test so as to be able to support students in grades K-8
