Siemens Energy Manufacturing Engineer in Rural Hall, North Carolina

A Snapshot of Your Day (position overview)

A successful candidate in this position will be responsible for developing manufacturing processes for new power generation turbine airfoil components. The position also provides on-going shop floor support of conventional machining and related processes.

The ideal candidate is a proactive Manufacturing Engineer who will own product manufacturing from development of processes, assist in shop floor execution, perform data analysis to drive process improvement, and interact with Product Engineering departments to address non-conformances and opportunities to improve design manufacturability. Our Manufacturing Engineers are expected to work collaboratively with CNC Programmers, Fixture Engineers, CMM Programmers, and Set-up Operators daily in these efforts.

This Manufacturing Engineer position will spend equal time working within established manufacturing systems creating process documentation for production execution and working on the shop floor to observe and improve processes as well as process execution.

How You’ll Make an Impact (responsibilities)

  • Complete the development and implementation of manufacturing work instructions for complex machining processes including routings, standard operating processes, and quality control process sheets for multi-axis milling machines.

  • Collaborate with management, product engineering, peer engineers, and operators to realize high quality, stable processes for complex, multi-axis milling production of rotating blades and stationary vanes components.

  • Lead team in development of Manufacturing Quality Control Plans / Part Inspection Plans for managing and improving capability of the production process.

  • Project leadership of development and qualification projects (scheduling, design of experiments, experimentation, reporting, documentation) with full responsibility for due dates, results and costs associated with your field of activities.

  • Review in process product quality control information (manual and CMM dimension checks) and work with production personnel to adjust production run machining processes.

  • Work with production personnel to implement, troubleshoot, and improve machining and associated processes.

  • Collaborate with Quality Engineer to conduct Root Cause Corrective Analyses.

  • Communicate with product engineers to understand requirements, optimize product design for manufacture, and communicate process deviations (NCRs).

  • Lead continuous process improvements (analysis, solution finding, implementation) around machining processes and methods. Perform and assess manufacturing data to determine opportunities for improvement and lead teams to successfully implement changes.

  • Support quoting efforts by providing cost estimates.

  • Assist and provide direction for design and development of fixturing for machining processes.

  • Assist in design of specialty cutting tools for precision form milling.

  • Review cutting tool inventory and adjust stocking levels based on production run usage.

  • Lead and support CAPEX projects and return on investment calculations.

What You Bring (requirements)

  • 2-4 year degree in related Engineering field.

  • Manufacturing experience; preferably with 4- or 5-axis machining.

  • Skilled in interpretation of product and manufacturing drawings and GD&T specifications.

  • Knowledge in identifying, analyzing, and correcting machining process issues such as surface finish, cutter wear, machining process stability, and dimensional control.

  • Knowledge in process control for machining as well as in statistical process analysis and design-of-experiments

  • Working knowledge of MS office (Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

  • Preferred working experience with SAP, NX, and Teamcenter systems.
