Full-time - Permanent

Salary: £39,140.74 + 35% shift allowance, share plan, competitive pension, annual bonus, and other additional benefits.

The successful candidate will be require the ability to change to different shifts with minimum notice to suit business needs.

About the role

As Craft Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role providing maintenance and continuous improvement skills to deliver and improve on safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost and asset care.

You’ll be accountable to ensure all assigned Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules are carried out at the defined frequency and completed to the required standard to ensure downtime is minimized. 

Being responsible for supporting installation, commissioning, and testing within the area as the need arises, you’ll work closely with and coach operators, engineers and team leaders to perform autonomous maintenance tasks, machine set ups optimisation and support growth in equipment capability as required. 

You’ll engage in start of shift meetings and performance-based team meetings to raise and address any persistent performance issues and be proactive in approach, leading active solution driven initiatives with the wider engineering team.

Health and safety compliance is key, and you’ll be at the forefront of making sure this is monitored alongside other KPI’s and targets. 

Key Accountabilities

  • At all times adhere to Diageo health and safety, environmental and food safety standards, and work to all applicable legislative procedures.

  • Maintain a safe and organised workplace environment through adherence to the Safety and 5S MMS practices.

  • Provide crafts resource (electrical and mechanical) to the Operations Team

  • Make full use of SAP - SAP reporting & recording completion.

  • Raise 5 why’s as defined by agreed trigger points. Work with Operators and team leaders to play a proactive role in situational problem solving on shift. Fixing problems and finding solutions

  • Participate in line improvement projects.

  • Anticipate issues and be more proactive in approach.

About you

We’re looking for someone who can work well within a team as well as the ability to make effective decisions and thrive in situations where they can solve problems.  

You’ll have excellent communication skills and be able to push forward your own ideas about improvements to current approaches and appraise new opportunities. You’ll have the drive to make a positive difference to manufacturing excellence.

You'll be a time served mechanical or electrical Engineer with an understanding of the opposite core skill and have relevant qualifications and demonstrable knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and environmental risk principles.

Requirements – skills and experience

Qualifications

  • Must have completed a recognised apprenticeship or gained a mechanical or electrical Higher National Certificate level qualification or equivalent within an FMCG industry.

Experience – Essential

  • Numerical/verbal reasoning, computer literate

  • Understanding of Asset Performance and maintenance philosophy with excellent Process Improvement and root cause problem solving skills

  • Multiskilled or willing to become.

  • Ability to work autonomously.

  • Ability to work in a team and be an effective team member, good communication skills.

  • Has strength of character to challenge poor team behaviours

  • Is an ambassador for Manufacturing Excellence and continuous improvement

  • Responds to change in a positive and flexible manner.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of risk standards (Quality H&S Environment) Safety and hygiene compliance procedures

  • SAP Experience
