The Crime Victims Center (CVC) is the leading provider of comprehensive trauma-informed victim support services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, all violent crime, and elderly, minor, and disabled victims of property crime in Suffolk County.

We are the Crime Victim Center for the Suffolk County Police Department and work with Federal crime victims as well. The CVC also provides Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Services (SAFE) and rape crisis (RCC) response for acute sexual assault victims presenting in emergency departments.

If you have a proven track record of providing advocacy or crime victim services to vulnerable populations or even if you are eager to learn and want to help affect significant changes in people's lives, then this position is for you. Paralegals with a completed undergraduate degree are welcome to apply.

CRIME VICTIM ADVOCATES PROVIDE:

Trauma informed crisis intervention, in-person intakes, assistance obtaining orders of protection, accompaniment to medical and other appointments or emergencies and or court accompaniment, criminal justice and family court advocacy, assistance obtaining reimbursement for expenses related to the crime, medical and legal referrals and comprehensive referrals for needed services to rape and sexual assault victims, victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, all victims of violent crime, hate crime victims and elderly minor and disabled victims of all crime.

Advocates receive extensive training to become DOH certified rape crisis counselors and required to be on call for a maximum of two days a week to respond to sexual assault victims in hospitals. Advocates educate victims and their non-offending family members of their rights, eligibility for services and/or crime victim compensation and on the criminal justice or family process. This is not a remote position.

Educational and Other Requirements

Bachelor's Degree required. Paralegals welcome! Bilingual Spanish required. Multi-tasker, organized, and excellent communication skills. Eager and willing to learn and be part of a team. Other duties as assigned by Program Manager and or Executive Staff. Criminal justice and social services experience is preferred. Bilingual Spanish speaking a plus but is not a requirement. COVID vaccination required.
