The General Laborer in Tool and Die Department assists tool and die makers and machine operators in the production, maintenance, and repair of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and molds. The role includes performing general labor tasks, maintaining a clean work environment, and ensuring equipment is ready for use.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Tool and Die Makers: Help in the creation, repair, and maintenance of tools and dies.
  • Material Handling: Move and load raw materials or finished products using forklifts, hoists, or manually.
  • Operate Machinery: Use various hand tools and power tools to assist in fabrication or maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect Work pieces: Check work pieces for defects and ensure they meet specifications, assisting in quality control.
  • Maintain Work Area: Keep the work area organized and free of hazards; perform basic equipment maintenance and cleaning.
  • Support Production: Assist machine operators in setup, operation, and breakdown of equipment.
  • Documentation: Maintain logs of production activities, including issues and maintenance performed.

Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED: A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Relevant Work Experience: Experience in a manufacturing, metalworking, or general labor role is preferred. Prior work in a tool and die or machining environment is a plus but not required.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Understanding of basic mechanical principles, tools, and machinery used in a tool and die environment.
  • Basic Math Skills: Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations related to measurements, tolerances, and material usage.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure precision in tasks such as inspection, measurement, and assembly.
  • Physical Strength & Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects (typically up to 50 lbs), stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Manual Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and ability to handle small parts or work with precision tools.
Knowledge:
  • Safety Awareness: Understanding of workplace safety practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper handling of materials, and familiarity with OSHA guidelines.
  • Tool and Die Basics: General knowledge of tools and materials used in metalworking (e.g., drills, grinders, dies).
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Teamwork: Ability to work well with others, including taking direction from tool and die makers or supervisors.
  • Communication Skills: Clear communication to ensure accurate execution of tasks and collaboration with the team.
