UNC Health Care Mammographer I in Rocky Mount, North Carolina

Summary:

The Mammographer I produces radiographic and diagnostic studies, and mammograms under the clinical direction of a Radiologist while taking responsibility for film quality, patient care, safety, sterile technique and providing education for staff and students. The Technologist participates in other necessary activities in support of departmental operations. The Mammographer I Must meet current MQSA (FDA) regulations for a practicing mammographer.

Responsibilities:

  1. Produces routine and specialized, portable and surgical radiographs, mammograms and specialized studies to include, but not limited to:

-Obtains history and/or examination data and evaluates for contraindicating conditions;

-Reviews Radiologist’s report;

-Administers contrasts by direct injection or IV line;

-Takes and monitors vital signs, and performs venipuncture;

-Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices;

-Adjusts and controls equipment;

-Reviews film for clinically acceptable results and releases patients;

-Prepares room by gathering and setting up equipment, supplies and contrasts.

  1. Applies radiation safety guidelines and patient protection guidelines.

  2. Provides emotional support, comfort, general assistance and information to patients.

  3. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care based on the age of the patients served.

  4. As assigned, provides instruction in the basic theory, technical skills, and application of radiologic and mammography procedures to other employees, new employees and students.

Other information:

  • Graduate of an accredited school or program of Radiologic Technology.

  • Current Registration with American Registry of Radiologic Radiographers with up-to-date continuing education credits.

  • Current advanced certification in Mammography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

  • 2-years of experience as a Radiographer and/or Mammographer is preferred
