Fedcap Teacher Assistant in Rochester, New York

$1,500 Sign on bonus for successful candidates upon hire

Position Summary:

Assist and support individuals with Autism and other developmental disabilities in order to increase social-emotional skills, communication, and functional academic skill development.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work under supervision of classroom teacher.

  • Assist in educational programming for students.

  • Assist in caring for physical and emotional needs of students, including self-care.

  • Assist in classroom supervision.

  • Present segments of lessons under guidance of teacher.

  • Assist teacher in training other assistants.

  • Assist in the development of instructional materials.

  • Compassionately support students who have behavioral issues that may include physical aggression, verbal assault, inappropriate sexual comments, gestures, and acts.

  • Maintain strong knowledge of and support implementation of individual behavioral and educational plans.

  • Utilize school-wide system of behavioral supports.

  • Ensure the daily completion of all behavioral documents.

  • Assist with documenting lesson plans in written form.

  • Help organize and supervise extracurricular activities.

  • Develop and implement vocational, educational, and recreational activities in the community.

  • Maintain a safe and clean learning environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Current and valid NYSED certification as a Teacher Assistant or Teacher

  • Associates degree or (1) year of experience working with children with disabilities

  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation
