Responsibilities

Position Summary:

A Registered Nurse to perform clinical aspects of research studies involving infants, children, adults, and their families. This includes performing research related tests and procedures (i.e. blood draws, investigational drug or vaccine administration, and collection of clinical specimens), transporting investigational product to the research site, collecting medical information from e-Record and completing study data forms, and data entry.

Specific Responsibilities:

The position requires the ability to work independently, to communicate effectively with study personnel and study subjects in a positive manner, and to maintain accurate and complete records on all subjects for sponsor review. Responsibilities include: perform testing protocols and record responses, obtain research specimens, administer investigational products or vaccines, travel for home visits or to private medical offices in the Rochester area. monitor/review study forms for accuracy and completeness, data entry, and perform various other related duties. Pediatric experience in working with infants and young children strongly recommended. Experience in pediatric phlebotomy a plus. Will require obtaining Human Subjects Protection Program (HSPP) certification and federally mandated certifications per individual protocols.

Qualifications:

  • NY State Licensure as a Registered Nurse. Ability to obtain HSPP certification as well as other study specific training is required. Must have reliable/efficient transportation.

Required Competencies:

  • Exercise independent technical judgment; correctly participate in clinical research protocols

  • Demonstrate competency at administering investigational products and vaccines

  • Accomplish record keeping and data entry efficiently, accurately and in a timely and organized manner

  • Ability to communicate effectively and to troubleshoot problems with PIs and co-workers

  • Remain up-to date for all required training and certifications

Instruments and Equipment:

Computers, medical records, medical equipment varying from basic measurement devices to more complex devices (monitors, etc.), telephone, photocopier, scanner, printer.

Supervision:

Research Nurse will work independently as a member of a research team under the supervision of Mary Caserta, MD (PI), Elizabeth Carbonell (Study coordinator), and Jessica Brunner (Study coordinator).

Responsibilities/Standards:

Data Collection:

  • Enter data into electronic databases (i.e. BLIS, REDcap)

  • Maintain accurate & organized records (hard copy, computer lists)

  • Collect required subject history from physician/chart review

Study Visits and Assessments:

  • Check and maintain calendars for study appointments.

  • Coordinate study product availability with the investigational pharmacy (IDS), pick up study product, travel to study site (either at SMH, private pediatric practices, or home visits). Administer investigational products , and collect specimens (i.e. blood draws, nasal washes, nose/throat swabs, rectal swabs, etc.) per protocol. Transport and deliver specimens to appropriate sites.

Research Team Collaboration:

  • Attend routine team meetings and attend/arrange small group meetings as needed. Present materials and discuss/troubleshoot problems.

  • Coordinate processes with study team (e-mails, phone calls, etc.)

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 29.90 - $ 44.86 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
