University of Rochester Perioperative First Assist - Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Perioperative Services and the direction and responsibility of the attending physician, the NP/PA will provide surgical first assistance during the inpatient operative procedure. In addition, the NP/PA will have responsibilities outside of the operating room, such as screening patients to determine the needs for medical attention, reviewing patient records to determine health status, taking patient history, performing physical examination, and recording pertinent patient data. The NP/PA dictates notes for consultations and progress notes with accuracy and efficiency as appropriate per patient. The NP/PA participates in rounds with the surgeon pre or post-operatively and will assist with the management and coordination of care as appropriate. During emergency situations, the NP/PA will be initiating appropriate evaluation and therapy. Preferred Qualifications: Able to work effectively in an environment notable for complex, sometimes contradictory information. Will only consider experienced APP with surgical aseptic technique and experience in robotic surgeries, for example: OB/GYN; Cardio Thoracic; General Surgery; Urology; and ENT. No new graduates. Required qualifications: Completion of an accredited graduate-level NP/PA program. Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider and American Heart for the Provider BLS. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

Require a Master’s degree (or pending) as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active/pending New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as an Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant

Requires completion (or pending) of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, an active/pending New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA ( National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)

NPs and PAs will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relations skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.71- $67.07

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum annual salary for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
