Trillium Health NY Food Program Support Assistant in Rochester, New York

Purpose: Provide support and assistance to Trillium Health’s Food Program—including, but not limited to the agency’s reoccurring Food Pantry, emergency food distribution, and other food services.

  • Assist with all aspects of the Food Program including the agency’s Food Pantry, emergency food distribution, and other food services.

  • Assist food pantry clients with shopping in the food pantry, including pushing shopping cart, applying quantity limits on food items, assisting in bagging of items, and offering nutritional information to clients when appropriate.

  • At the direction of the Supervisor, Food & Nutrition Services, plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the Food Pantry including inventory/ordering/purchasing, pick- up/unloading, stocking of the emergency food shelves, food bag preparation, and distribution.

  • Maintains and models a client focused approach with the primary goal of “providing people food without barriers” and thereby addressing food insecurity and the social determinants of health.

  • Assists with the coordination of donated food pick up scheduling, retrieval, and relationship maintenance. As such, serves as a primary point of contact between Trillium Health and donation sites.

  • Work effectively with other food and nutrition services staff, along with volunteers, to perform program duties.

  • Collaborate with Care Management, Supportive Services, Harm Reduction, and/or Clinic staff to coordinate provision of snacks for support groups, education groups, meetings, and/or individual patient/client needs.

  • Demonstrate ownership and pride in Food Program space and service offerings.

  • Maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the Food Pantry, storage areas, and program kitchen daily.

  • Completes routine cleaning and maintenance including, but not limited to: stock area cleaning, freezer cleaning and defrosting, and periodic deep cleaning of food program areas.

  • Oversee proper sanitation, handling, preparation, storage and delivery of food products according to local health codes.

  • Customer Service and Ambassadorship

  • Provide excellent customer service that is patient focused, solution oriented, and seeks to address the social determinants of health by providing food to clients without judgement and by removing any unnecessary barriers.

  • Support the Food Program wide culture/expectation of ambassadorship for Trillium Health services, ongoing assessment of Food Program client’s connection to medical/primary care and provide appropriate linkages when appropriate.

3 Miscellaneous

  • Demonstrate developing knowledge of HIV/AIDS, food insecurity, nutrition, trauma informed care, and related issues.

  • Drive assigned agency vehicles, including, but not limited to, a box truck and a 13-seat passenger van.

  • Maintain Food Safety Certification, with training offered in the role.

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

  • Requires the ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, races, sexual orientations and gender identities or expressions.

  • Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of all patient, client, proprietary, and protected information.

  • Employees are accountable for meeting performance standards of their departments. They participate in compliance audits and quality improvement plans.

  • Other specific duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required plus Food Safety Certification (or ability to attain within 90 days). Non-profit and coordination experience preferred. Requires the ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, races, gender identity and/or expressions and sexual orientations. Must be able to meet agency driving policy requirements for this position, including a valid NYS Driver License and a good driving record. Some flexibility with schedule required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks including walking with clients on a daily basis for long periods of time in the food pantry, stocking shelves and fridges, and lifting large boxes.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Frequently, the employee must stoop, bend and lift or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
