Job Responsibilities:

Under the general guidance of the Sr. Director, but with broad latitude for independent judgment, the Director will have responsibility for:

Event Management

Strategize with the Sr. Director to execute high impact events for College’s alumni, donors, students, and friends. Plans, leads and implements strategies for engaging these constituents through social and professional events, digital engagement, volunteer opportunities, philanthropy, personal visits, and other activities.

  • Strategically supports University and College programs to help engage alumni. These include: college-based programs, career programs, and community-building initiatives, as well as campus-wide activities such as ROAR Day, Brick City Weekend, Imagine RIT, Distinguished Alumni Awards, Commencement, and fundraising campaigns.

  • Lead events pertaining to:

  • Stewardship

  • Alumni

  • Targeted events/dinners

  • Professional affinity groups

  • Collaborate with colleagues to execute events. Certain college-based events will require the associate director to take ownership of:

  • Coordinating invitation strategy, list and design

  • Event logistics and follow-up

  • Generating briefings and leadership talking points

Alumni Engagement

Work with Sr. Director and the Engagement Team to develop an alumni engagement plan.

  • Identify and manage alumni involvement in various volunteer roles: College National Councils, student clubs and programs, admissions, cooperative education and career services, development, mentoring, and student interaction.

  • Actively seek out promising alumni and friends of the university to recommend for special engagement opportunities including Distinguished Alumni Awards, Retiree Awards, Advisory Boards, webinars, and special attention by the President and university senior leadership.

  • Design and implement programs and events that engage alumni and students that reinforce lifelong connectedness to College.

Build the Pipeline of Future Donors

  • As a part of the overall engagement strategy, partner with advancement colleagues to understand the College’s top and up-and-coming donor prospects, and assist with engagement strategies that build the relationship between these individuals and the College.

Stewardship and Annual Giving Strategy

In conjunction with college and divisional partners, this role will develop and execute a cohesive annual strategy, with the ultimate goal of increasing alumni participation and improving donor retention. While understanding the goals of both the College and overall advancement office, activities will include:

  • Strategic stewardship of Sentinel Members who support the college.

  • Connect donors with scholarship recipients.

  • Coordinate special projects for Gift Officers in regards to donor communication and stewardship.

  • Partner with Annual Giving office to ensure timely and accurate solicitations for the College.

  • Identify donor stories and other materials that can be used to better advance the annual fund goals with the College’s constituents.

  • Partner with Annual Giving office to devise strategies to increase alumni participation.

  • When appropriate, edit annual fund appeals to best resonate with the College’s constituents.

Communications

Collaborate with the Marketing team to create the alumni communications strategy on behalf of the college, including print, email, web, and social networking platforms.

  • Coordinate communications from the dean to alumni on recent achievements.

  • Identify donor stories and other materials that can be used to better advance the annual fund goals with the College’s constituents.

Other Duties

Attend and actively participate in the Alumni & Constituent Engagement team meetings.

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years of alumni relations, event planning, development, volunteer management, or comparable experience.

Skills:

  • Outstanding oral and written communication and customer service skills, including direct interpersonal

Job Summary:

The Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement has primary and ultimate responsibility for leading and implementing the college’s strategies for alumni and constituent engagement, stewardship, and annual giving, ensuring they directly relate to divisional, college, and university goals. Will work collaboratively with the Senior Director of Advancement, college faculty, staff, and other advancement colleagues to develop strategies that successfully engage the College’s alumni and donors, steward donors, and increase the annual fund results.
