Responsibilities:

In consultation with subject matter experts, develop learning objectives, syllabi, unit plans, and lesson plans for course sequences and individual courses based on predetermined professional objectives:

  • Develop learning activities and formative assessments that bring students into high-level engagement with complex content and provide them with frequent updated information on their progress toward meeting learning objectives

  • Develop frameworks for student interaction and academic community across modalities, including asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, and in-person

  • Identify, adapt, or supplement instructional resources–including texts, external websites, software, videos, and more–to highlight essential content, improve quality or accessibility, or provide scaffolding or extension opportunities

Conduct iterative review cycles with instructional design developers to ensure that all content is accurate and aligned to course objectives and outcomes.

Develop assessments and rubrics that measure mastery of learning objectives and that serve as compelling job market assets that support students’ career development.

Collaborate with instructional designers to implement course content and structure in RIT Certified’s LMS and other platforms.

Incorporate into the development process information on relevant job markets, feedback from industry experts, student and instructor surveys, and other academic or business considerations.

Required Qualifications:

3 years experience in an educational role involving curriculum development and instructional design.

Skills:

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with university faculty and industry experts

  • Ability to quickly and accurately transform complex or disorganized material into engaging, well-sequenced curriculum

  • Experience with Universal Design for Learning, Understanding By Design, and deep understanding of current research on curriculum, assessment, and instruction, especially for online adult students

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing about complex or technical topics for diverse audiences

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work asynchronously using tools like ClickUp, Google Drive, Slack, and more

  • Familiarity with Agile or similar project management methodology

  • Familiarity with learning management systems and user experience

  • Subject matter expertise in healthcare, data-driven decision making, engineering, art and design, or enterprise leadership a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education or workforce development training

  • Teaching experience

  • BS/MS in Education, Instructional Design or STEM field

  • Experience with Agile project management

  • Ability to quickly learn complex technical material independently

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory

  • Expertise in instructional design

Job Summary:

The Curriculum Developer contributes to and supports RIT Certified’s diverse and growing portfolio of courses, non-credit certificate programs, and applied professional degrees. In consultation with subject matter experts, the Curriculum Developer creates learning objectives and curriculum at the program and course levels that enable professional growth for students at all stages of their careers. Based on experience as an educator and knowledge of the principles of curriculum design and adult learning theory, the Curriculum Developer creates assessments with rubrics that prove proficiency in newly-acquired skills to employers. They organize and contextualize complex content to highlight the essentials while offering opportunities to go deeper. And they curate and adapt existing resources that reflect the state of the art in a given field of study. The Curriculum Developer engages in iterative review cycles with instructional design developers to ensure that all content is accurate and aligned to course objectives and outcomes. By creating the activities by which students acquire and demonstrate new skills, the Curriculum Developer advances world-class professional education that connects those with similar professional interests and unlocks new opportunities for work.

The Curriculum Developer will possess a deep and evolving understanding of curriculum development and instructional design theory, with a focus on adult learners and working professionals. They will apply this expertise to courses offered in a variety of modalities, including asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, and in-person. Ability and desire to quickly learn and communicate new content is essential, as this role is responsible for collaborating with subject matter experts to develop curriculum in healthcare, business analytics, engineering disciplines, enterprise leadership, and more.

The Curriculum Developer will work closely with the other members of the Academics team and the Learning Design and Development team to ensure a seamless course development and launch process. Communicating across a variety of platforms, the Curriculum Developer will balance multiple complex, collaborative projects subject to deadlines.
