University of Rochester Benefits Assistant III in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Serves as Benefits Assistant III in the Office of Total Rewards; Counsels University faculty, staff and retirees concerning University benefit programs, with a focus on the University Retirement Program; Primary focus is administration of the Retirement Program processes including audits, remittances, and data processing; Assist faculty and staff with inquiries regarding Retirement Program Benefits; Provides administrative support to the Benefits Specialist for Retirement Program Benefits. Supervised by Benefits Specialist II-Retirement Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts multiple plan audits for each remittance to identify eligibility and contribution discrepancies, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the remittance process, Plan rules and data processes. Utilizing Excel to monitor, track, audit and maintain records, reports, and statistics for the University Retirement Program.

  • Takes responsibility for reviewing and resolving issues identified through the remittance and Plan audits. Coordinates with internal departments as well as the Plan Recordkeeper as needed to identify issues and ensure compliance.

  • Processes Retirement Program remittance payments each pay period; Identifies and resolves any discrepancies or issues related to the remittance payments. Taking responsibility for coordinating with internal departments and external vendors to resolve issues and ensure wires are submitted prior to any applicable deadlines.

  • Initiates additional analysis as needed to ensure compliance with various aspects of Plan functions and across the University’s Controlled Group.

  • Monitors and projects retirement contributions to ensure compliance; works with internal departments and external vendors to adjust contributions and initiate refunds as necessary.

  • Researches, resolves and responds (written and verbal) to issues/problems affecting faculty, staff and retirees’ Retirement Program benefits. Communicates with internal departments and external vendors to ensure accuracy in administrative functions. Provides information based on knowledge of the plans, policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Coordinates with internal departments and external vendors to develop the remittance calendar on an annual basis. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the remittance process as related to Payroll processes, data and file sharing as well as vendor functions. Takes responsibility for monitoring the calendar throughout the year, identifying and resolving potential issues.

  • Assist with other duties and special projects/events as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree required

  • 3 year’s experience in Human Resources or related field required

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Suite, virtual collaboration tools (Zoom, Box); Adobe, etc. preferred

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact, both orally and in writing, with people across diverse backgrounds and cultures preferred

Pay Range

Pay Range: $19.37 - $27.12 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
