Salvation Army Clinic Dental Assistant in Rochester, Minnesota

Qualifications Dental Assistant licensed by the State of Minnesota, preferred. If unlicensed, one year of experience working in a dental clinic preferred. Ability to work well with clients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups, respect confidentiality, and ability to work within the ethical and legal parameters of social services. Ability to accept supervision and work with a team of co-workers. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction. Ability to use Salvation Army approved word processing, spreadsheet, data base management, and graphics/desktop publishing software packages. Must have reliable transportation. Must be able and willing to work evenings. Must maintain current Basic Life Support CPR certification if licensed. If not, licensed must be CPR certified. Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Position Summary Clinical Dental Assistant is responsible for providing quality dental assistant services to the underserved of Olmsted County and surrounding counties. This accomplished through assisting dental professionals. Including but not limited dental assistant services, cleaning of equipment and replenishment of supplies. Part time, 4-8 hours/week, $23-$24.70 Essential Duties & Responsibilities This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities and tasks may be assigned by corps officer/administrator. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates. Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every client, donor, and colleague with respect and dignity, and without discrimination of any kind. Assure that operatories are supplied and ready for dental services. Assist dentist in performing procedures as needed. Provide information and instructions to patients for future dental care and follow-up care. Review patient charts for accuracy and completeness. Prepare operatories for next patients Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments according to standard practice and governing policies. Assist with basic facilities cleanup and general maintenance of equipment. Assist with replenishment and stocking of supplies. Assist with orientation and training of volunteers. All other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Normal environmental hazards related to the provision of dental care including but not only the handling of syringes, exposure to blood, chemicals related to the exposure and handling of x-ray film, and low-level radiation from x-ray machines. Normal precautions and procedures minimize the danger of any adverse complications from these potential hazards. There is no use of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) in this office nor are any narcotics stored in the building. Due to the nature of the dental office environment and clientele, there may be times of emotional distress or turmoil. The duties and responsibilities of this position cannot be performed from home. Work hours will vary according to the needs and goals of the program. This includes some evenings and Saturdays.
