Project Overview:

Bechtel is the Project Management Consultant for the Site Wide Infrastructure and Public Realm elements of the New Murabba Project earmarked as the new modern downtown of Riyadh the capital city of Saudi Arabia. Being developed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), New Murabba will be a 20km2 mixed use real estate development including the planned Mukaab iconic building. The development will be built around the concept of sustainability, featuring green areas and walking and cycling paths that will enhance the quality of life by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and community activities. It will also feature an iconic museum, a technology and design university, a multipurpose immersive theater, and more than 80 entertainment and culture venues. The project will be situated at the intersection of King Salman and King Khalid roads to the Northwest of Riyadh. The New Murabba project will offer a unique living, working and entertainment experience within a 15-minute walking radius and will have its own internal transport system. Job Summary:

In this role, you will will be responsible for the coordination of project Architectural Design tasks and Landscape Architecture associated with development of the New Murabba Project. The Architect is responsible for coordinating the scope and integration of work assigned to subcontracted design entities. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, and the desire to innovate designs as well as architecture work processes.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule or arrange initial and detailed phases of the Architectural Designs for the project.

  • Plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of layout techniques, procedures, and criteria for the Architectural designs of the project buildings, facilities and structures.

  • Prepare studies, designs, reports, proposals, value engineering studies or alternate technical concepts in accordance with Engineering Procedures and contribute to the Architectural design of the project facilities.

  • Will be responsible for the review of Architectural Design tasks and Landscape Architecture associated with development of the region.

  • Prepare essential contractual documents such as Scope of Work, Request for Proposal (RFP) and Information Report.

  • Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions.​

  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals​.

  • Prepares letters to vendors and clients​.

  • Coordinates architectural efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups​.

  • Identify and implement sustainability requirements.

  • Arrange and integrate design work between the architectural discipline, engineering disciplines and other design entities.

  • Assists in the preparation of cost estimates and quantity take-offs.

  • Help the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and job satisfaction.

Education and Experience Requirements:

A recognized Bachelor’s / master’s degree in architecture or Urban Planning, from an accredited college or university with an overall minimum experience of 5-10 years.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Previous experience working as Architect with an interest in the environment and life sciences.

  • Relevant experience in the KSA and MENA region and a sound understanding of the cultural norms and requirements of the region and a LEED certified professional.

  • “US Professional Architects Registration and/ or internationally recognized Professional Architects Registration from elsewhere, such as RIBA” is preferred.

  • Practical work experience sufficient to demonstrate competence and breadth in architectural layouts.

  • Active participation in professional association(s) for architecture

  • Knowledge of architectural layout design, production techniques, building materials, and construction methods for development of various work areas.

  • Understands technical issues and cost related to selection of design features and unique architectural design requirements.

  • Experienced with the practices and procedures as well as International Design Codes and Standards.

  • Skilled in oral and written communication and has graphic presentation skills.

  • Experienced with managing knowledge of sustainability and its integration into the design and the construction of various buildings.

  • Has a working knowledge of Autodesk design suite (Revit, AutoCAD) and is proficient in model viewing software (e.g. Autodesk Navisworks) to navigate the 3D model for review, coordination, and guidance of physical model development decisions. Leads formal and informal 3D model reviews.

  • Familiar with discipline-specific software (e.g., Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, GIS programs, Photoshop, and 3D Sketch Up).

  • Knowledgeable in the use and application of relevant business/project software (eg Microsoft 365, PowerBI, Oracle Unifier, Aconex.)
