Job Description

As a Lab Specimen Processor, you will be responsible for receiving, opening, and verifying specimens in accordance with SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and other regulatory organizations. Your role will include a variety of tasks to ensure the efficient and accurate processing of specimens within the laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and open specimens delivered to the laboratory for analysis.

  • Review and document acceptability of specimen and chain of custody forms.

  • Destroy specimens as needed.

  • Clean and maintain work area daily.

  • Inspect all trash bags once the aliquoting process is completed to ensure sample and document removal.

  • Process Triage requests.

  • Assist in various laboratory areas as needed.

  • Prepare samples for shipment.

  • Adhere to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor information.

  • Comply with company policy.

Essential Skills

  • Basic ability to use a computer.

  • Basic understanding of laboratory techniques and procedures.

  • Basic communication skills.

  • Advanced understanding of certification requirements for SAMHSA, CAP-FUDT, and other regulatory bodies.

  • Basic understanding of the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds.

  • Ability to have full body movement.

  • Must have vision and hearing corrected to meet minimum acceptable norms.

  • Ability to cope with stress due to production obligations.

  • Ability to read and comprehend SOP, Federal (49 CFR Part 40) and CAP-FUDT guidelines.

  • Ability to communicate with other employees and supervisors.

  • Ability to provide input and recommendations on operations.

Work Environment

This position operates in a climate-controlled office and testing laboratory environment. The work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, and any hours over 40 will be compensated at time and a half. Employees must be able to handle potential exposure to toxic or hazardous materials while adhering to safety protocols.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $15.00/hr.
