Job Summary and Qualifications

The Division Trauma Operations Director is a key member of the Trauma Services team. In this capacity, the Operations Director is integrally involved in assisting the Division Trauma Vice President with strategic planning and management of the trauma service line of the Capital Division. The Operations Director will interact with trauma service line team leadership to accomplish the goals of the Capital Division and the corporate Clinical Service Group (CSG). The Operations Director, under the direction of the Division Trauma Vice President, is responsible for providing strategic planning and support for initiatives and projects at the division level; including but not limited to data analysis, problem solving and coordinating the implementation of processes to assure regulatory compliance with the American College of Surgeons and the respective State Trauma designating body. The Operations Director will be responsible for all other duties assigned by the Division Trauma Vice President. Position Summary Major Responsibilities

Trauma Registry:

  • Work collaboratively with Virginia Trauma Center Registrar teams and Parallon CDRA leadership to ensure productivity, validity, and timely submissions of the facility trauma data to internal and external stakeholders (HCA Trauma Data Center, State Departments of Health, and the American College of Surgeons.)

  • Act as a subject matter expert to provide guidance to Parallon and trauma centers on trauma registry inclusion criteria and data collection following National Trauma Data Standard guidelines and HCA Healthcare trauma registry guidelines.

  • Work with Virginia Trauma Center leadership and Parallon CDRA leadership teams to monitor the status of trauma registry for each Capital Division trauma center.

  • Will provide education to facility trauma program staff, when needed, in the subjects of data collection, report writing, medical coding, and abbreviated injury scaling.

  • With collaboration from IT&S, will be responsible for provision new trauma program staff with access to the hospital trauma registry and application server.

  • Responsible for coordinating installation of trauma registry software updates.

  • Responsible for ensuring each Capital Division trauma center is in a state of continuous survey readiness. This will be accomplished by working with facility leadership to complete the “T-24 survey readiness model”, and continuous monitoring during the designation/verification cycle .

  • Serve as an HCA Trauma Surveyor team member on all surveys related to the “T-24 survey readiness model”.

  • Assist the onsite visit logistic coordinator for each trauma center’s ACS and HCA Healthcare trauma surveys. The onsite visit logistic coordinator is responsible for all logistical aspects of virtual surveys including scheduling of videoconferencing meetings, sending calendar invites, providing EMR access, and ensuring all required participants are on the videoconferencing line for various parts of the agenda.

Data Reporting and Research:

  • Responsible for creating, running, and analyzing division-wide reports for operational and quality reporting to division and hospital leadership. Additionally, the trauma operations director will be responsible for presenting data to stakeholders to assist with operational or quality initiatives.

  • Responsible for analyzing and aggregating Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) benchmark reports across all division trauma centers to identify outcomes / processes where there is an opportunity for improvement.

  • Assist trauma centers with creating data sets for single or multi-site research activities.

  • Review data on each trauma center’s pre-review questionnaire prior to submission to the designation/verification entity.

Quality Improvement:

  • Ensure the quality of hospital trauma data through various means of validation. This will include single and multi- variable validation.

  • Assist the Division Trauma VP with monitoring of the trauma center performance improvement and patient safety program. This will include attendance at peer and operation meetings to ensure compliance with designation and verification standards. Review and provide feedback on monthly meeting Peer and Operations minutes for each trauma center.

  • Monitor and utilize the clinical operations and performance analytic tools to identify the trauma services impact on HCA Healthcare’s clinical agenda.

  • Serve as a resource for performance improvement team members to ensure accurate reporting of hospital events to the American College of Surgeon’s National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) and the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). Participate in Clinical Service Group (CSG) and Division committees work group(s) as directed by the Division Vice President of Trauma Services.

  • Collaborate with division clinical documentation improvement (CDI) and coding to ensure accurate reporting of quality measures. Review trauma registry cases that are selected for trauma center survey readiness for accuracy, timelines, performance improvement write-ups, meeting minutes, appropriate filter/complication capture and event resolution. In the event of TPD vacancy, the Director of Trauma Operations will collaborate with the VP of Trauma Services to assume to role of Interim TPD.

Finance:

  • Collaborate with revenue integrity to monitor the accuracy of trauma charging across the division.

  • Submit regulatory and billing related questions to HCA Corporate Regs to ensure compliance with trauma charging and billing practices. Collaborate with facility Trauma Program Director’s to ensure local, State, and National regulatory compliance reports are submitted timely.

Service-line Development:

  • Assist the Division Trauma VP with evaluating the potential for new trauma programs in the Capital Division.

  • Orient new trauma program leadership to all analytics tools of the trauma service-line including Trauma Eagle, Trauma Hawk, and the Trauma Falcon.

  • Assist the Division Trauma VP with business planning and strategic growth planning of the trauma service-line.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree Healthcare related field (Required)

  • Master's degree Healthcare related field (Preferred)

  • Trauma, Informatics, and public health experience (Preferred)

  • 3+ years of experience in Trauma Program (Required)

  • 3+ years of experience in Trauma Registry (Required)

  • 3+ years of experience in Management (Required)

  • Registered Nurse - Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state in which he or she practices, in accordance with law and regulation (Required)

  • Trauma Operations Performance Improvement Course within 6 months of hire (Required)
