Summary:

The Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA) serves as a key leader responsible for ensuring the continuous enhancement of safety, quality, and the efficient delivery of hospital-based medical services at Northern Dutchess Hospital. This role is instrumental in fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for physicians and licensed independent practitioners (LIPs), promoting excellence in clinical practice and governance. The VPMA leads and oversees all aspects of medical staff governance, compliance, and performance, while also contributing to the strategic planning and development of medical programs across the hospital.

In addition to providing leadership and medical expertise in areas such as utilization review, clinical informatics, risk management, infection prevention and control, and clinical outcome improvement, the VPMA also has direct managerial oversight of hospital-based physicians. This includes responsibility for their performance, engagement, and development, ensuring alignment with the hospitalï's goals and clinical standards.

The VPMA plays a pivotal role in driving the hospital's clinical quality agenda by establishing performance metrics, setting and maintaining standards of care, managing patient flow, and spearheading efforts to measure and improve clinical outcomes. Additionally, this position is tasked with championing best practices and protocols, ensuring the hospital remains a leader in patient care and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  1. Quality and Patient Safety
  • Provide leadership and medical expertise, collaborating with department chairs to drive clinical performance improvement initiatives.

  • Monitor patient satisfaction and work with department and program directors to develop strategies for physician engagement in improving patient experience.

  • Lead the peer review process, organizing efforts across medical staff departments to ensure continuous quality improvement in patient care.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to establish performance standards and monitoring systems for quality initiatives, patient care review, physician privileging, utilization review, risk management, infection control, and clinical outcomes.

  • Collaborate with Nuvance Health to design and implement best practice guidelines and standards of care.

  1. Medical Affairs
  • Ensure that Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations are current and compliant with hospital policies and regulatory bodies, overseeing the medical staff credentialing process.

  • Guide the hospital in meeting Joint Commission standards and federal/state clinical requirements.

  • Ensure the effectiveness of medical staff committees and contribute to the development of new patient care programs.

  • Act as a senior medical leader, providing input into the hospital�s strategic planning and resource allocation processes.

  • Oversee the hospitalist program and other physician services to ensure quality and patient needs are met.

  • Support Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs as a liaison, core faculty, and participant in recruitment and policy review.

  1. Management/Strategy
  • Address physician and provider issues, including adherence to the Code of Conduct and Medical Staff Bylaws.

  • Build strong relationships with physicians, fostering communication and collaboration through forums and strategy development.

Other Information:

  • M.D. or D.O. degree required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a practicing physician.

  • At least 5 years in a leadership or management role in a healthcare setting.

  • Active and current board certification in the respective field.

  • Active medical license in New York or Connecticut (or ability to obtain).

  • Experience in a hospital environment, including knowledge of typical office and acute-care settings.

Salary Range: $142.14 - $263.97 Hourly
