ICF Next’s Multicultural Communications line of business supports clients in developing authentic and culturally-appropriate messages, materials and campaigns. We’re currently hiring for a Multicultural Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator who will support communications efforts focused on engaging African American and Black communities. Our work includes several public sectors, including health, transportation, environment, energy, disaster management, and education. Federal clients include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, US Department of Energy, US Department of Transportation, US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Environmental Protection Agency, and others.

The Team

This is an exciting role working alongside a team of multicultural communications and community engagement professionals who support federal and state agencies, addressing public health, climate and environment, energy, affordable housing, and accessible transportation issues. Our team of in-house multicultural communications and community engagement professionals authentically reach African American/Black communities, Hispanic/Latino communities, American Indian tribes, Alaska Native nations, and Asian and Pacific Islander communities. The team offers excellent opportunities for growth and mentorship as part of a dynamic and collaborative organization.

The Work

We’re currently hiring for a Multicultural Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator (African American and Black communities) who will support communications efforts focused on engaging African American and Black communities in the United States. We are looking for a professional to support new and existing tasks for public sector clients with an authentic lens toward African American and Black communities, particularly those living across the Deep South. Work may include supporting development of communications plans and materials, creative campaign development support, community engagement, support for formative research efforts, earned and social media, and partnership engagement. Experience engaging Indigenous communities broadly is preferred. This professional also will collaborate with local and remote communications teams who work on these projects. Experience working in communications and/or a public relations/advertising agency is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support campaigns and projects that are designed to reach and engage African American and Black communities, assisting with the development, execution and evaluation of audience-focused outreach efforts through partnerships, earned media, social media, materials development and community engagement.

  • Support content development and strategies to better support education activities for African American and Black communities.

  • Collaborate with project teams with oversight from clients and senior team members, and complete key deliverables on time and with high quality.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with organizations and potential partners who engage African American and Black communities.

  • Identify innovative technologies to support multicultural communications broadly, with emphasis on engaging African American and Black communities.

  • Support business development and thought leadership activities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, advertising or equivalent

  • 1+ years of communications experience

  • Demonstrated interest in working with and engaging African American and Black communities

  • Understanding of African American and Black history in the US

  • Proven interest in exploring how to engage historically black colleges and universities, faith-based organizations/Black churches, community-based organizations that support African American and Black communities, and organizations that serve African American and Black professionals

  • Demonstrated interest in working with media designed for African American and Black readers, viewers and listeners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with federal or state government clients

  • PR/consulting agency experience

Professional Skills

  • Interest in writing content for a variety of channels including email distributions, websites, and other collateral materials

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$43,379.00 - $73,744.00
