Principal Data Platform Developer

Location: Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Netherlands (Office/Hybrid/Remote)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Principal Data Platform Engineer to join the Data team. The principal will serve as the technical focal point and guide the implementation of our new enterprise data platform, fulfilling our mission to empower our colleagues with access to trusted data, while enabling self-service analytics at scale across the entire organization. 

In this role, the principal will translate business requirements into value, and adopt a product-oriented mindset to guide the development of new data products. The role also involves shaping our team’s development standards and mentoring other team members and colleagues on best practices.  

We are seeking an enthusiastic, curious person who can help inspire a data-driven culture across Bentley.

We will rely on you for the following:

  • Be the technical lead for the implementation/transition to the new enterprise data platform and setting best development practices, handling end-to-end data analysis, modeling, and development.

  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models; design data access layer specifications and communicate design for implementation.

  • Collaborates with the engineering team to create integrations to and from the source and target systems

  • Collaborate with analytics team and business users to identify requirements and develop data products that meet their needs. 

  • Analyze and tune database queries for performance and understand core database functions that support the data models

  • Design and implement data warehouse/data marts from scratch, including:

  • Working with end users on requirements

  • Understanding the data that exists in the source systems and constraints

  • Creation of data models utilizing facts and dimensions

  • End-to-end testing of the model, data mart, and pipelines

  • Working with data engineering team to find solutions to data problems

  • Documentation for Data Warehouse/Data Marts

  • Makes recommendations on integration strategies, platforms, and application infrastructure required to implement solutions.

  • Mentor other data developers in the research, development, and implementation of data products that lead to improved business outcomes. 

  • Work with Data Governance to enable data observability. Implement and document code and policies.

  • Implement data security policies and best practices through the use of auditing, role base security (RBAC)

What You Bring to The Team :

  • Experience as a Tech Lead or Principal Engineer, demonstrating strong technical skills. 

  • Experience with cloud data technologies, preferably Snowflake and Databricks.

  • Experience with BI technologies, specifically Power BI and Qlik. 

  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking. 

  • Creative, strategic, and independent thinker. Detail-oriented and focused on ensuring data integrity and accuracy. 

  • Able to own and manage multiple projects from start to completion – eliciting requirements from business stakeholders, and performing proof of concepts, design, and development. 

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field or equivalent industry experience.
