Join the Hyper-V Network Virtualization team and help shape the future of Azure. We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated software engineer to develop foundational, high-performance networking software on cutting-edge platforms in Azure. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain kernel-level software components while collaborating with a diverse set of individuals across Windows and Azure.
In Core OS, we are responsible for the Operating Systems that power Azure, Microsoft's Linux OS, the platforms for Windows Client and Xbox, and our Windows Server ecosystem – through all of these, we support every one of our cloud businesses and billions of customers around the world. Responsibilities
Design and develop features for large-scale distributed software systems and cutting-edge hardware.
Write clean and optimized code, improve test coverage, organize, and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas.
Consider testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understand when code is ready to be shared and delivered.
Identify dependencies, create, and drive sign-off of design document for a feature.
Implement feature that meets existing coding standards and established patterns, with emphasis on reusing code where it makes sense.
Focus on customer/partner needs through a data driven approach.
Develop “best-in-class” engineering for our tech stack by ensuring that the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or RUST
OR equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience with multi-threaded / parallel programming.
3+ years of experience architecting and developing robust and extensible solutions.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, or Rust
OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, or Rust
OR equivalent experience.
2+ years of experience in Open Source, Linux, and distributed systems.
Experience of using Rust in a high-performance environment is a plus.
Experience working with Windows, including demonstrated expertise in Windows internals, or kernel drivers, is a plus.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
