We are on an ambitious journey to reimagine the way we understand, process, and store service data in the era of artificial intelligence. We are building Data Processing and Analytic services within Observability Intelligent Cloud group, Redmond, Washington location (part of Substrate Foundation Organization), empowering artificial intelligence, monitoring, alerting and other scenarios with low cost and full data governance across E2E data life cycle using LLM.

We are seeking an innovative Principal Software Engineer with a passion for technology. In this role, you will contribute to developing, designing, and operating large-scale data systems that make up our next-generation platform. As a part of our team, your work will have a direct impact on one of the world's most significant platforms.

As a Principal Software Engine er, you will be working on the following areas:

  • Build data platform infrastructure including framework, pipeline using artificial intelligence.

  • Build scalable, high-performance software services over large datasets with low latency and high availability.

  • Ensure the platform adheres to Microsoft’s strict data privacy and compliance standards.

  • You have design and problem-solving skills. You're competent across a broad set of service technologies and have the ability to quickly grasp new products and technologies. You have experience building and operating large-scale data systems.

  • You have a passion for solving complex problems, big data, real-time event processing, and building software at a massive scale.

  • You excel in a team setting and can effectively collaborate with various teams within Microsoft.

  • You are driven to explore, create, and inspire others with transformative products.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Software Engineer on the Team, you will be entrusted with responsibilities that are critical to the successful development and evolution of our technology platform. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Design, developmentand maintenance of software solutions to handle complex data processing scenarios, not only meet current functional and non-functional requirements, alsoscalable and can adapt to future needs.

  • Collaborate with engineers from within or outside the team, to ensure the successful integration of individual components into the larger system. 

  • Actively participating in architectural discussions and decisions, playing critical role in selecting technologies, designing scalable and sustainable solutions, and planning for future growth. 

  • Mentor and develop new engineers to take on new initiatives and challenges.

  • Taking part in code reviews, both as a reviewer and a reviewee, to ensure the quality of the software and promote best practices within the team. 

  • Become subject matter expert in the owned areas.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,

  • OR Python

  • 4+ years of professional experience in architecting, designing, and developing data platforms. 

  • Experience in designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data systems. 

  • Problem-solving skills and Demostrated ability to lead small to large-sized projects.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
