Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud.  Within CO+I, the Core Datacenter Services (DCS) team is responsible for the development and implementation of global strategies across our Datacenters (DCs). As a Principal Manager Technical Program Manager - Strategy focused on Infrastructure Utilization Efficiency (IUE), you will be responsible for leading and managing projects aimed at optimizing power management infrastructure across diverse geographical locations and multi-disciplinary teams. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies for maximizing efficiency, increasing energy consumption, and ensuring sustainable practices in our cloud infrastructure.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Principal Manager Technical Program Manager - Strategy to join our dynamic team. The candidate selected will have a proven track record in managing complex cloud infrastructure programs, ensuring seamless integration of cloud services, and optimizing performance across the organization. As a Principal Manager Technical Program Manager - Strategy, you will play a key role in driving the successful strategy development, implementation and ongoing management of our cloud infrastructure initiatives across MSFT.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Lead a team of Technical Program Managers focused on driving infrastructure utilization initiatives.

  • Strategy Development : Lead the development of comprehensive strategies for optimizing infrastructure utilization efficiency in cloud environments, considering factors such as scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Project Planning and Execution : Plan, execute, and oversee projects aimed at scaling infrastructure utilization efficiency initiatives globally. This includes defining project scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration : Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, finance, and sustainability teams to align infrastructure optimization efforts with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Stakeholder Management: Effectively communicate project progress, risks, and milestones to key stakeholders at various levels of the organization, including executive leadership.

  • Resource Management : Manage resources efficiently, including personnel, budget, and technology, to ensure successful project delivery within scope, timeline, and budget constraints.

  • Risk Management : Identify potential risks and challenges associated with infrastructure optimization projects and develop mitigation strategies to address them proactively.

  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting : Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of infrastructure utilization efficiency initiatives. Regularly monitor performance and provide comprehensive reports to management.

  • Continuous Improvement and Partnership : Drive a culture of partnership with key business stakeholders focused on continuous improvement by evaluating existing processes, tools, and methodologies, and implementing enhancements to optimize project delivery and outcomes.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in computer science, product/technical program management, business administration, or information technology

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects

  • 3+ years experience in cloud infrastructure program management or equivalent enterprise level programs

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree AND 8+ years experience in computer science, product/technical program management, business administration, or information technology

  • Experience with datacenter design, power, mechanical and network redundancy

  • Experience delivering results within scope, schedule, and budget and capital expenditure budgets

  • Experience with IT infrastructure, scalability, and risk management

Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
