The Windows Experiences team is a creative community of designers and researchers on a mission to create and deliver holistic customer experiences while imagining the future of Windows experiences. We are working to optimize and customize Windows for software developers, creating new system settings and driving products like Dev Home and Windows Terminal. We’re building a culture based on learning, and creating meaningful experiences for our customers. We are seeking multi-skilled product designers with a mastery of visual design, experience design, and storytelling. We’re looking for a Designer II who’s driven by empathy for customers, and the desire to see a project through from rough ideas to launch. The right candidate works independently and is a self-motivated collaborator with other design teams, engineering teams and marketing groups. Background in software development, coding, prototyping with code, or experience creating developer tools or products, would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to design’s direction for area of accountability and maintains cohesion with the existing design system

  • Leads design on a product with moderate to high visibility, risk, and/or complexity

  • Develops other team members as a mentor, onboarding buddy, coach, and sets the standard for design

  • Maintains a bar for craft across design, product management and engineering within a major product area

  • Contributes and partners with other major area leaders to ensure product coherence, erasing organizational boundaries from the experience while actively balancing working on the details and finding time to step back and see the bigger picture of the product

  • Contributes to broader Windows team culture (e.g., mentorship, onboarding buddy, team morale, ERGs/clubs)

  • Understands and acts upon their role in creating a Diversity and Inclusion workplace at Microsoft.

  • Demonstrates customer obsession and empathy, crafting a story around the WHAT, WHY, and HOW for their ideas, while demonstrating through work rather than just words

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 3+ years of experience working in product or service design

  • OR equivalent experience (e.g., experience using design thinking to solve problems)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 5+ years of experience working in product or service design

  • OR equivalent experience (e.g., experience using design thinking to solve problems)

  • 5+ years experience working in product or service design

  • Background in software development, coding, prototyping with code,or experience creating developer tools or products

  • Demonstrated sense of interaction design attuned to the fundamentals of user experience, including accessibility and inclusive design

  • Visual design skills

  • Ability to communicate and present/storytelling skills, as well as ability to energize teams and advocate for your ideas

  • Experience designing in Figma

  • Experience with interaction prototypes

Product Design IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
