Victorian Assisted Living Director of Nursing (DON) in Rapid City, South Dakota

[Director of Nursing (DON) [JOB SUMMARY:The Director of Nursing (DON) performs general nursing supervises all other nursing staff, provides for orientation and education of employees and is responsible for scheduling all members of the nursing department. The DON directs all nursing care services ensuring that the facility provides services in accordance with federal and state regulations and with facility objectives, policies, and procedures. The DON also promotes favorable relationships inside and outside the facility and performs duties to ensure safe and efficient operation of the nursing department. The Director of Nursing may also function as the Executive Director/Administrator.   1. Responsible to: The DON reports directly to the facility Administrator on all medically related matters which pertain to staff or to residents and on all documentation regarding that care in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  2. Supervisory: The DON supervises all nursing personnel to include other RNs, LPNs, Resident Care Assistants (RCA) and Certified Medication Assistants (CMA).
  3. Other Relationships: The DON regularly interacts with federal and state regulators, residents and family members, facility staff, and outside providers including physicians, pharmacists, dieticians, therapists, home health care companies and other health care facilities.He/she also routinely works cooperatively with other department heads to ensure proper functioning of the facility.

[RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:]{times="" new="" roman",="" serif"=""}

  1. The DON is accountable to the facility Administrator and is responsible to oversee all resident care and medical function of the facility, for implementation of all medical policies and procedures, and to ensure all residents receive the highest level of services in accordance with State regulations. Additionally, the DON works cooperatively with other department heads to ensure proper operations of the facility.

    1. Oversees regular scheduling of nursing staff.
    2. Assures the coordination of resident care within the facility and by outside agencies.
    3. Initiates and signs the required assessments and care plan of new resident in accordance with state regulations.
    4. Coordinates and oversees care plan meetings with residents and their families.
    5. Completes the required assessments in a timely manner, on each resident to determine level of care and care requirements.
    6. Provides and /or oversees all resident and/or family teaching.
    7. Ensures staff respect resident rights and privacy.

Communicates regularly with the facility Administrator regarding any changes in a residents level of care.

Ensures personal and medical data is entered into the electronic medical record of each resident in the facility.

Completes or ensures that initial assessments, 30-day assessments and annual assessments are completed on all residents in accordance with state regulations.
