About us:
The City of Raleigh is seeking a
Senior Construction Operator/Driver to join our Transportation Maintenance Division. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in the maintenance of critical infrastructure such as sidewalks, curb and gutter, asphalt, medians, and storm drains.
As a member of our 218 person staff, you will contribute to maintenance of 1,130 miles of streets and sidewalks; the upkeep of over 33,000 curb ramps; and the protection of 3.2 million linear feet of stormwater pipes connecting more than 32,000 drainage inlets.
The Transportation Stormwater Asset Management Inspections Unit is responsible for performing daily inspections to trac conditions of the Citys stormwater assets. Stormwater assets are defined as pipes, drains, and structures of all sizes that make up the Citys stormwater system.
About you:
If you are our candidate for this job, you will have experience in construction methods and materials, basic construction safety, and be capable of leading by example and earning the respect of your coworkers. As you learn and develop in this role, you will be responsible for operating a range of haul vehicles, including flat bed and dump trucks, as well as wide variety of construction equipment. Your expertise will eventually extend to special function equipment, such as both automated and walk-behind leaf collection trucks, and snow and ice removal equipment. You will lead by example and utilize manual and power tools to execute tasks such as cleaning catch basins and storm drains; maintaining ditches, repairing and maintaining pipes; and contributing to general street maintenance activities.
Additionally, you will be ambitious and proactive by undertaking other assigned duties as required and seeking opportunities to improve yourself and those around you. This position may involve working in confined spaces, including underground drainage structures. Duties and Responsibilities
Operates various types of heavy equipment
Performs unskilled or semi-skilled general maintenance
Selects proper maintenance tools and equipment for tasks
Performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations
Performs storm drain and catch basin cleaning and repairs.
Performs pipe maintenance and repairs
Operates automated or walk behind leaf machine for leaf collection
Inspects and maintains tools and equipment by changing ut worn or damaged parts, monitoring safe operational use, and/or cleaning equipment
Inspects facilities and structures; identifies and documents required repairs
Will be required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during emergencies and inclement weather
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and three years of assignment-related equipment operation/driving or specialized maintenance experience
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Drivers license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Drivers license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Will be required to obtain Tanker Endorsement
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
