Radford University One-Year, Non-Tenure Track US History faculty in Radford, Virginia

Job Summary:

The History Department at Radford University seeks to fill a one-year non-tenure-track faculty position in United States history to begin August 2024. The faculty member will teach four classes per semester in consultation with the department chair based on student needs and departmental strategic priorities, as well as assist in the department’s Center for Archives and Digital History. The position requires taking an active role in the department’s Digital History program, and contributing to teaching lower-division surveys in United States History. We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching. Ideal candidates will have training and experience in public history. The successful candidate will offer upper-division courses in Public History, as well as others reflective of their interests and expertise. Additional fields of specialty are open. We welcome all applicants who have a commitment to high-quality teaching, innovative scholarship, and student success. Applicants must either have completed a Ph.D. in History or be doctoral candidates in History who are ABD .

The department oversees its own major as well as the Social Science Teaching major, designed to train future high school social science teachers, and its courses contribute to many other majors and minors across campus.

Required Qualifications:

Experience teaching U.S. history surveys; ability to teach Public History; Ph.D. or near completion in History is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal Candidates have training and experience in public and/or digital history. Other fields open but preference to Appalachian History.
