SCHUYLKILL COUNTY COURT HOUSE Boat Rental Clerk in Pottsville, Pennsylvania
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general supervision,
- Primary Duties: Rent boats (kayaks, canoes, row boats) to park visitors and assist with launch and disembarking -
- Secondary Duties: Open, close and clean the Clubhouse and/or Pavilions for renters. Including some nights and weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Building specific
- Explain rental fees, policies and procedures.
- Open building(s) (unlock doors, disable alarm) at pre-determined time. Close building(s) (lock doors and set alarm) when the event is over.
- Clean restrooms, kitchen and floors after every event in preparation for the next event. A detailed procedure list will be provided.
- Landscaping and grounds maintenance (weed whacking, mulching, etc.) as needed.
Boat specific.
- Greet customers and discuss the type, quality and quantity of boats sought for rental.
- Explain rental fees, policies and procedures
- Compute charges for rental or services and receive payments.
- Provide information about rental items, such as availability, operation or description.
- Answer telephones to provide information and receive orders.
- Rent items, arrange for provision of services to customers and accept returns.
- Recommend and provide advice on boat use and safety.
- Reserve items for requested times and keep records of items rented.
- Keep records of transactions and of the number of customers.
- Prepare rental forms, obtaining customer signature and other information, such as required driver's license.
- Inspect and adjust rental items to meet needs of customer.
- Inspect returning rental items for damage and assess damage fee as required.
- Prepare merchandise for rental.
- Receive, examine, and tag articles to be altered, cleaned, stored, or repaired.
- Advise customers on use and care of the boats, personal flotation devices and paddles.
- Assist customers in and out of boats.
- Secure all equipment to protect against unauthorized use and theft.
- Assist with all other property rentals as required. (fishing rods, etc.)
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education/Employment: Any combination of education and experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
Knowledge:
- Must have boating knowledge and experience.
- Service Orientation - Actively looking for ways to help people.
- Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
- Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. For example, should the forecast call for bad weather do you rent or not rent?
- Instructing - Teaching others how to do something.
- Time Management - Managing one's own time and the time of others.
Abilities:
- Must be a self-starter and team player with a professional attitude and possess excellent verbal and written skills.
- Must be able to work 8+ hours on weekends (Sat. & Sun.) and holidays (Memorial Day Monday, July 4th & Labor Day Monday). Times may vary.
- Must be physically able to bend, stoop, push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must have good interpersonal communication skills to interact positively with customers and staff.
- Must be able to swim.
- Water/Boater Safety certificate will be required. (Can be acquired online)
- Must be able to operate a computer for internet and email. Knowledge of Word and Excel a plus.
- Must possess a valid PA Drivers license
Working Conditions:
Work is normally performed alone and involves frequent interruptions. Work may require responding to angry or upset individuals.
