A Technical R&D Project Manager/Engineer is responsible for timeline and milestone adherence for one or more technology evaluation projects, new product development projects, or improvements to existing hardware, software and / or single-use devices designed for the biotech industry. A Technical R&D Project Manager/Engineer will be responsible for project(s) from early phase of technical scouting, prototype evaluation, design specification, as well as testing and validation with the Product Manager and other R&D Engineers.

This position is part of the Automation, Digital and Learning SME team located in Harbourgate, Portsmouth and will be a hybrid role. At Cytiva, our vision is, to advance future therapeutics from discovery to delivery.

What you’ll do:

  • Must have a background in a discipline linking biology with physics, optics and/or electronics.

  • Technical understanding of biopharmaceutical drug and gene therapy production needs in terms of product quality sensing via methods such as optics, chemical, physical sampling, and immersion.

  • Broad understanding of the sensing and detection technologies themselves, including operating principles, methods of fabrication and limitations of measurement methods.

  • Knowledge of good manufacturing practice and regulatory body requirements for the biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Be able to understand technical hurdles and create new designs or adapt existing technologies to aid problem solving.

  • Good understanding of current sampling and analytical methods used in drug development.

  • Independently scout new technologies that are in line with strategic goals of the organization and maintain a knowledge of the emerging market of new technologies and competitor offerings.

  • Expected to work independently with considerable latitude to establish priorities and activities needed for the project team to successfully meet objectives.

    Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or relevant science field; Master’s Degree or PhD preferred

  • 5-10 years’ experience

  • Able to communicate with technology inventors/ suppliers to be able to understand technical information quickly identifying potential for Cytiva

  • Create trusted relationships, communicate with departments across Cytiva spanning multiple disciplines and able to listen and identify customer needs
