Senior Substation Project Engineer (Remote)
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is currently seeking a senior level electrical engineer to work as a Substation Project Engineer in our Power Delivery Substation Specialty Services Department. This position reports to the Department Manager in our Portland, Oregon office but the employee may be based in any of our offices nationwide, and flexibility is available to work remotely.
Responsibilities
Grow and manage relationships with clients
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced staff in substation project execution
Perform and direct others in proposal development including development of Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) specifications for HV and EHV substation projects
Perform and direct others in developing detailed technical specifications for major equipment such as circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, disconnect switches etc.
Perform and direct others in the detailed design of HV and EHV utility substations for conceptual and detailed design including one-line diagrams, three line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, elementary and wiring diagrams, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
Ensure POWER quality procedures are followed and that the team is resourced in an optimal manner
Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients across multiple offices
Active participation in POWER's Knowledge Management Program (KMP) and external organizations such as IEEE, CIGRE, etc.
Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects
Required Education/Experience
BSEE (BS in Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS in Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power system option
Professional Engineering license (PE) or ability to obtain within one year
10+ years of experience in utility substation design
Experience in 15 kV through 500 kV physical and electrical substation design, and IEEE/ANSI standards
Experience in managing 5 or more people on a project team
Experience filling the role of project engineer for several projects occurring concurrently
Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
Experience related to HVDC Converter Stations and FACTS is preferred
Experience with and established positive relationships with local clients
