About the position:

The Director of Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering will oversee and manage the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of our outside plant infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of OSP engineering principles, fiber optic networks, telecommunications infrastructure, and project management. The Director of OSP Engineering will lead a team of engineers and technicians to ensure the successful delivery of OSP projects, adherence to industry standards, and efficient utilization of resources.

What you will do:

  • Offer strategic direction and leadership to the OSP engineering team, guiding them towards achieving organizational objectives.
  • Create long-term strategic plans for the expansion and enhancement of outside plant infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with senior management to ensure OSP initiatives are aligned with overarching business objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to telecommunications industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for proposed OSP projects to inform decision-making.
  • Lead the design and engineering efforts for outside plant infrastructure, including fiber optic networks, cables, conduits, and related facilities.
  • Manage quality control for outside aerial and underground plant construction, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Apply technical expertise to OSP design using software tools like AutoCAD, GIS, and Fiber Optic Design Software.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and construction plans to maintain quality standards.
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of OSP projects, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budgetary constraints.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external contractors to facilitate seamless project implementation.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to verify compliance with design standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance OSP engineering processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals, negotiate contracts for procurement of equipment, materials, and services, and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Resolve disputes and issues related to vendor performance or contract fulfillment to ensure project success.

Qualifications:

Must have a background in telecommunications.

5+ years in OSP engineering, including at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.

PE License: Preferred.

Thorough understanding of telecommunications industry standards and regulations.

Demonstrated track record of delivering OSP projects on time and within budget.

Related experience in quality control and/or outside aerial and underground plant construction preferred.

Works well under pressure, able to navigate long distances and varied ground conditions daily with contractors.

Capable of working in all temperatures and climates while maintaining safe work practices.

Strong project management skills.
