Job Description -- Head Cook
Job Title: Cook
Primary job location: Single Adult Shelter
*Reports to: *Day Shift Site Manager
*Manage Assignments for: *One food prep staff and volunteers.
Status: *Full time, Day shifts for ten hour days *Wages: $18 hr. DOE
Summary
Seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Cook to organize to meet the nutritional needs of the homeless population and coordinate efforts with another shift. The shift Cook will oversee Staff assignments, health and safety needs the kitchen, ensure equipment and facilities are clean and maintained, submit food orders, weekly menu creation to serve quality meals in a timely manner. Each staff performing food services at the shelter is required to interface with homeless in a positive way and ensure homeless volunteers are trained and working safely.
Responsibilities
- Control and direct the food preparation process and any other relative activities each evening
- Construct weekly menus and oversee their execution by kitchen staff
- Plan orders of equipment or ingredients according to identified shortages
- Arrange for repairs when necessary
- Remedy problems in a timely and efficient manner
- Be fully in charge of managing and training kitchen staff
- Oversee the work of kitchen staff, inspecting quality of performance and timely attendance
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
- Make sure jobs are outlined for all kitchen staff ensure practices are the same on all shifts
- Foster a climate of cooperation and respect between co-workers
Requirements
- 5 years' experience as a cook
- Exceptional proven ability of kitchen management
- Ability to divide responsibilities and monitor progress
- Outstanding communication and leadership skills
- Good understanding of useful computer programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS)
- Kitchen Credentials in health and safety training
- Degree in Culinary science or related certificate preferred
