Position: Controls/Automation Technician $20 - $30 per hour Contract to Direct Pontiac

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controls/Automation Technician to join our team. The Controls/Automation Technician will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and testing automation systems, with a focus on PLCs and mechanical components. The ideal candidate will have experience in PLC Studio 5000, a strong understanding of control systems, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues. Job Responsibilities:

  1. PLC Programming and Testing:

    • Utilize PLC Studio 5000 to program and test automation systems.
    • Download customer-specific Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) and Safety block parameters.
    • Configure and set IP addresses for devices as required.
  2. Mechanical and Electrical Integration:

    • Read and interpret electrical and pneumatic prints.
    • Safely make electrical connections, including 480VAC and 120VAC connections.
    • Establish Ethernet connections for testing purposes.
    • Perform minor mechanical tasks, such as removing VFD covers and aligning switches.
  3. Quality Assurance:

    • Implement comprehensive testing procedures to ensure the functionality and reliability of automation systems.
    • Document test results, identify and address flaws, and provide feedback to the development and validation teams.
  4. Collaboration:

    • Coordinate closely with the software development and validation teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems.
    • Foster effective communication and collaboration to resolve technical issues.
  5. Process Improvement:

    • Identify and eliminate redundant functions and components to optimize automation systems.
    • Continuously improve knowledge of business applications and meet user needs and expectations.
  6. Compliance:

    • Adhere to industry standards and protocols in all automation projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in controls and automation, with a focus on PLC programming and testing.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC Studio 5000.
  • Proficiency in software development and coding.
  • Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills.
  • Familiarity with test techniques and programming.
  • Exceptional planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to generate articulate reports on technical assessments.
  • Efficient planning skills and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Experience in making electrical connections and working with electrical prints.
  • Mechanical skills for basic tasks related to VFD covers and switches.
