    In this role, your duties as a Maintenance Mechanic at the Point Tupper Marine Terminal will be to ensure the implementation and maintenance of equipment (such as excavators, loaders, and conveyor systems) in accordance with the Savage Maintenance Program. This role reports directly to the Site Supervisor / Operations Manager.

    Here’s a preview of what you’ll be doing:

  • Maintaining the implementation of the Savage Maintenance Program

  • Properly recording and complete maintenance reports and service records

  • Maintaining and reporting spare parts inventory

  • Completing PM services on plant and process equipment

  • Contributing to the team by operating several pieces of equipment that help move, stock pile, and prepare coal for distribution

  • Operating any one of the following: a Cat 988 Loader, skid steer, e-crane, EC140 excavator, and water truck

  • Assisting the operation with other tasks deemed necessary to meet customer expectations; i.e. housekeeping, maintenance of facilities, clean up, etc.

  • Performing thorough pre/post-trip inspections

  • Maintaining cleanliness of equipment and conveyors

  • Expanding your personal knowledge of maintenance for conveyors, e-crane and operating equipment

  • Addressing the repair of maintenance issue’s

  • Taking an active role in our safety program including attending all safety meetings and promoting safe work behaviors at site

  • Completing all training including regulatory compliance, safety, and all other designated training, as required. (occasional out of province training is possible).

  • Performing other tasks as needed and when required.

    This is what we need from you:

  • Knowledge of rigging

  • Must be willing to perform any other special tasks assigned by management

  • Must understand our critical service requirements and see they are met

  • Mechanical background with conveyor systems and yellow equipment

  • Willingness to properly wear all required Personal Protect Equipment as deemed necessary by labour standards and Savage.

  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

  • Coal handling or aggregate handling conveyor experience preferred.

  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision

  • Dependability in attendance required.

  • Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime, as needed.

    Here are some of the minimum requirements for this role:

  • High school diploma, minimum 18 years of age.

  • Willing to work outside in any weather condition.

  • Must clear a criminal background check.

  • Must be able to climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend a ladder, work at heights.

  • Must be able to work in an industrial environment containing coal dust, hazardous conditions, confined spaces, and hot/cold conditions.

  • Must be able to stand, kneel or crawl, and walk extensively throughout the day, sometimes on uneven terrain.

  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
