Summary:

The Idaho Department of Correction has a vacancy for an Instructor at the Pocatello Women's Correctional Center in Pocatello, Idaho. Applicants must be willing to work in a Correctional environment and the incumbent will be required to work in direct contact with residents both one-on-one and in a group setting. The desirable candidate should have experience working with adult learners and knowledge of GED curriculum. The position requires the incumbent to work some non-traditional hours to include some nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Determines educational goals and develops curriculum.

  • Plans class activities.

  • Assesses students' needs and capabilities.

  • Administers and interprets diagnostic tests.

  • Determines appropriate instructional methods.

  • Develops course materials.

  • Provides individual and group instruction.

  • Evaluates students' progress and behavior and prepares reports.

  • Counsels students regarding educational program and personal problems.

  • Obtains supplies for class.

  • Maintains students' records.

  • Provides input to staff regarding educational and behavioral objectives.

  • Coordinates students' educational or vocational goals with staff.

  • Consults with other instructors on course development and students' progress.

  • Consults with other agencies and organizations regarding students' progress and behavior.

  • Monitors students' behavior to maintain discipline and ensure safety and security of fellow students, staff, self, equipment, and materials.

  • Reports accidents, changes in health, or other emergencies to nursing staff or security.

  • Prepares conduct reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligible for Idaho Standard Secondary Education Certificate; OR Eligible for Occupational Specialist Certificate: OR ; have a Bachelor's degree and at least two years experience teaching individuals in a group setting.

  • Must be willing to work in a correctional facility.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • A current Idaho teaching license is preferred.
