Job Purpose and Impact

The Nutrition Specialist, Core R&D, will build, execute & lead global R&D projects relevant to healthy aging/adult nutrition and the immune system, including medical & sports nutrition, and how these relate to a variety of health conditions, health benefit areas, and categories. The Nutrition Specialist, Core R&D, is responsible for building, executing & maintaining global research and development projects that shape understanding of ingredient/product opportunities and needs in healthy aging/adult nutrition & the immune system, as well as projects that target development of products to meet those needs. In this role, you will translate business objectives into scientific research programs, coordinate internal & external resources to conduct research work, ensure that market and technology opportunities are understood and prioritized, and customer and innovation needs are efficiently and effectively met. ​

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain strong connections to relevant Cargill business partners in the Specialized Nutrition and other businesses to conceptualize, plan & execute relevant internal & external preclinical & clinical work directed towards substantiation of identified health benefits & health claims

  • Conduct and coordinate internal & external activities to assist the business in understanding technical & commercial needs in the areas of healthy aging/adult nutrition & the immune system and target health benefits areas and other relevant areas of scientific discovery

  • Define a portfolio of scientific & product development opportunities that meets identified needs, and provide specialized knowledge & thought leadership in the areas of healthy aging/adult nutrition & the immune system

  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Biochemistry, Biology OR related scientific discipline

  • Minimum of four years of related work experience

  • Demonstrated experience in nutritional and health-related scientific research with an emphasis on healthy aging/adult nutrition & the adult immune system

  • Excellent written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Nutrition, Biochemistry, Biology, OR related scientific discipline with strong foundations in healthy aging/adult nutrition & the adult immune system

  • Minimum eight years’ experience in the CPG (consumer packaged goods) or food industry in relevant segments/categories, with demonstrated experience & expertise in healthy aging/adult nutrition & the adult immune system

  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating & summarizing scientific literature in the field of healthy aging/adult nutrition & the immune system

  • Demonstrated experience with organization & oversight of clinical trials &/or product claim substantiation

  • Experience in collaborating with academic and other knowledge institutions

  • Proven portfolio management experience, including gate review team/portfolio review team participation

  • Experience with leading research in a multi-national/cultural matrixed organizational environment.

  • Experience in managing and developing high performing teams and leading change
