Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Lead Firmware Engineer. This position is located at our Eaton Plymouth MN location. This position offers a HYBRID workschedule.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $97499.97 - $142999.96 a year.

What you’ll do:

The Lead Firmware Engineer position will be involved in many different aspects of the product life cycle, ranging from product specification through software design and validation. Successful candidates will possess the ability to work with multiple teams and lead a group to define, design, implement, and validate a series of products. This position will focus on designing and implementing an Electrical Utility Controller. An ability to understand system concepts, break them down into requirements and features will be paramount to this position.    

In this role:

  • Participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle (Requirements, Design, Coding, Testing, and Release) following a structured engineering process to ensure quality and reliability 

  • Design, implement, and test control algorithms, protocols, and communication technologies  

  • Collaborate with external and internal customers, such as Product Management, Field Service, Operations and Hardware Engineering teams during the product development.

  • Develop supporting engineering documentation including software requirements specifications, design documentation and design verification test plans 

  • Ensure the product specifications are complete, accurate and achievable  

  • Estimate workload, establish and maintain project schedules and monitor progress through the project execution phases 

  • Ability to lead a technology design with a team of engineers both locally and remote 

  • Search for technologies which would improve product performance, reduce development time or reduce cost 

  • Active communication with the cross functional team to ensure schedule, cost and performance alignment 

Qualifications:

REQUIRED Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering or related field from an accredited institution

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in software development in C or C++.

  • Hands on work experience with Linux Kernel Development

  • NO Relocation is being offered for this role. Candidates must currently today reside within a 50-mile radius of the Plymouth, MN facility. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

  • Sponsorship is not available for this role. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a team through the architecture, design, and test phase of the product development lifecycle

  • Experience developing in a very large code base

  • Experience in Agile design methodologies

  • Familiarity with software configuration and change management processes and tools (Git, Atlassian, etc.)

  • Experience in Power Systems, DSP, and Utility Industry.
