Systems Administrator

 

This Systems Administrator position involves collaborating with the Knowledge Integration Team at the Health Sciences Library System to manage system administration and software configuration tasks. Key responsibilities include managing operating systems, maintaining servers, virtual environments and scripting. Experience with networking and directory services is beneficial, and the role may require occasional after-hours support.

Job Summary

 

Installs, configures, and maintains servers within a small unit or department. Performs basic server and infrastructure tasks and maintenance. Provides end user support for basic issues. Maintains operating system patching and performs software installations.

Essential Functions

    • Work on the Knowledge Team under the guidance of the Knowledge Integration Librarian and in conjunction with the Technology Lead to accomplish systems administration, database support, and software configuration activities.
    • Manage all aspects of UNIX and/or Windows operating systems, including installation, software installation, patching, scripting, and hardware manipulation.
    • Install, configure, troubleshoot, backup, and monitor LAMP, Microsoft web, and database servers.
    • Knowledge of virtual environments such as VMware, HyperV, KVM, or VirtualBox.
    • Experience with networking, LDAP/Active Directory, and Windows administration is considered a significant plus.
    • Proficiency in scripting and system automation with languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Perl, Batch, etc.
    • Occasionally provide support and maintenance outside of the 8:30am-5:00pm business hours.

Physical Effort

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
