Fortive Corporation Staff Manufacturing Engineer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Staff Manufacturing Engineer will lead focus on ensuring successful support of manufacturing and service assembly lines at Industrial Scientific headquarters and Global Service Depots, by leading a team of supporting engineers to achieve business objectives. This role will be primary owner on the sustainment of target metrics such as manufacturing first pass yield, on-time-delivery, labor productivity and product quality. The Staff Manufacturing Engineer – Sustainment will also engage in projects to drive continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives within Fulfillment Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

  • Oversees issue escalation workstream for manufacturing and service assembly lines. Conducts data collection and analysis, root cause identification and countermeasure implementation. Works to drive countermeasures to solutions and leverages cross-functional teams / delegates to other manufacturing engineers when necessary. Role primary focus on iNet processing factory.

  • Responsible for coordinating and conducting manufacturing validation process for New Product Development processes and products implemented within Operations. Works in tandem with Manufacturing Engineers supporting New Product Development teams

  • Identify opportunity and lead projects related to cost savings and continuous improvement objectives. Leverage automation experience and provide business case and ROI calculations to engineering managers for project priorities

  • Leverages Fortive Business System (FBS) Lean tools to drive productivity and labor cost savings projects. Serves as manufacturing process subject matter expert team member for Lean Kaizen activities

  • Leads collaboration between sustaining manufacturing engineering and NPD engineers for Assembly Line design for new products and processes, and Operational Method Sheet (OMS) creation. Works with Test Engineering team for setup and implementation of new test systems and equipment. Ensures manufacturing process meets expectations for quality, TAKT time and productivity

  • Overall responsible for management, total preventative maintenance, sourcing and installation of tools and equipment needed for manufacturing and service assembly processes. Supports installation of new tools and equipment required for New Product Development projects

  • Supports Quality council to drive Quality process in the event support is needed arising from product quality issues. Supports sustainment of Product Performance Field Reliability through External defect rate reduction efforts.

  • Responsible to oversee activities needed for Engineering Change Notices (ECN) or Letters of Deviation (LOD) related to Value Engineering projects, Certifications, or other related Engineering part changes

ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT

  • Reports directly to Manager, Fulfillment Operations Engineering

  • Direct reports including Engineers, QC supervisor after interim period

QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS & WORK TRAITS

  • Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and superior communication skills

  • Proven leadership in managing cross functional technical projects

  • Ability to foster teamwork through active communication and listening

  • Must show leadership skills, decision-making abilities, effective communicator, and creative thinker

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles

REQUIRED

  • 6-10 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering role

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles

  • Experience leading manufacturing cells and supporting Key Process Indicators (KPI)

PREFERRED

  • Master’s degree in engineering or MBA

  • Lean / Six Sigma certification

  • Automation Experience

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365

  • Experience with JIRA preferred but not required

  • Understanding of Engineering document control systems

  • Experience with Oracle preferred but not required

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering preferred, other engineering disciplines considered
