Expert-level understanding of SQL queries, joins, stored procedures, relational schemas and data storage and access

Experience in integration of data from multiple data sources such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and MongoDB

Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL preferred) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.

Fluency with healthcare data is preferred.

Strong organization and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and acquire new technical skills.

Excellent work ethic, including the ability to achieve with minimal supervision.

Strong problem-solving skills.

Prepare client-facing reports incorporating statistical analyses.

Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze data quality and reliability

Job Summary

Evaluates business requirements, creates advanced data ingestion processes and modeling, and provides extensive support for databases and relevant services. Designs new data architectures. Ensures data quality and delivery. Trains and assists lower-level data engineers; often serves as team lead. Supports data analysts and scientists with expert-level research and consulting.

Essential Functions

This Data Engineer position will support a team of faculty investigators, staff data scientists, informatics specialists and basic research and medical scientists to launch a centralized databank for musculoskeletal research. The successful candidate will be familiar with common research data modalities (Omics and MRI/CT imaging data), formats (e.g. DICOM), metadata, and terminology. Responsibilities include data conditioning, consolidation, workflow optimization and automation, and quality control. Previous experience with large biomedical data and imaging informatics platforms such as PACS and container services such as Docker is highly desirable. Experience with, SAS, Python and SQL databases is also desirable. DEGREE: Information Science, Data Science, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Statistics, or related field with at least 5 years of experience in data analysis, database management, or information technology.

Typically has strong IT background with several years of practical experience. Proven track record with database supported with at least 5 years of practical experience within the DBA role for the platform. Strong knowledge of query language. Driven to continually self-learn, learning new features of the RDBM software and understand DBA role and expectations of position. Proficient in communication with customers, peers and management. Evaluates business requirements, creates advanced data ingestion processes and modeling, and provides extensive support for databases and relevant services. Designs new data architectures. Ensures data quality and delivery.

SQL Server, SAS, Python, R, VB Script or similar scripting languages

Data Confidentiality/Security - Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information at all times.

Data Quality - Maintain data quality at all times.

Explore innovative strategies and technologies surrounding data collection, processing, and storage. Establish quality controls and procedur s, design reports and summaries, and ensure project needs are met. Continuously test and evaluate systems and processes, identify and address inefficiencies and develop innovative, progressive, technical solutions to enhance existing operations.

Create and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models of data assets & resources

Establish and enforce data standards, patterns and optimizations to enable teams to deliver high performance analytics and applications. Collaborate with data science and analytic teams on future data needs, setting roadmap for architectural runway and managing expectations of the research team business and product teams.

Ensure data flows and related information is being tracked, managed and documented. Document data models and the build the data ecosystem at large using tools of various means. Ensure standards are met for data engineering and delivery efforts

5 -- 7 years in Database Administration
