University of Pittsburgh Clinical Research Coordinator in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Clinical Research Coordinator

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant to work as a team member of a biobehavioral cancer control research study sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate a telehealth-delivered, cognitive-behavioral treatment for cancer-related cognitive impairment among breast cancer survivors. A secondary aim is to evaluate potential treatment-related brain activity changes in participants using functional MRI technology. The position will include duties related to participant recruitment, consent and enrollment, administration of brief telephone-based, standardized neurocognitive tests, and assisting participants in imaging sessions. The successful candidate will provide additional support to investigators at the University of Pittsburgh and in organizing regular communication with research partners at Indiana University. Experience with neurocognitive test administration, REDCap data capture and spreadsheet software in behavioral research is desired. Opportunity to contribute to scientific presentations or reports related to this research project may be available, given sufficient training, familiarity, and proficiency. The position will occasionally require flexibility with shift/hours. This position is located at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.

Job Summary

Conducts research assessments on study participants. Assists with and adheres to Institutional Review Board (IRB) renewal, modification, and approved protocols. Assists with training staff. Ensures adherence to protocols and corrects issues with data collection.

Essential Functions

In addition to the Job Summary listed above, the assistant does have high responsibility for integrity and accuracy of neuropsychological testing and functional MRI data. Assuring participants complete neurocognitive testing along with all online self-report measures is a key responsibility. The data management team will also monitor regularly for data accuracy and completeness, therefore, there is a system in place for assuring minimal impact on data integrity and minimizing error risk.

Minimal to moderate decision-making will be required. However, an important decision-making responsibility will include interpreting eligibility status with telephone screening of potential participants. When there is a question of eligibility at screening, the assistant will be instructed to inform the potential participant that they will consult the research team and PI to review eligibility status, then contact the participant to let them know of the status. Another responsibility of the assistant is the wellbeing of participants, and although there is a small risk, a participant could unexpectedly express psychological or medical distress in a telephone contact. If the assistant suspects this, he/she is expected to notify the PI or other staff on the research team, who are licensed clinical psychologists, to assess and intervene with the potential or enrolled participant, as necessary.

Physical Effort

Little physical effort is required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
