UPMC Associate, PC Consultant | Office of Academic Computing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

We are seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable entry-level Associate, PC Consultant to join our team! The Office of Academic Computing (OAC) supports research and provides technology services for the Department of Psychiatry at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital. We are ranked as one of top Psychiatric Research hospitals in the country, the department is a leader in healthcare, medical education, and research. We design and build customized research applications for data collection, manage, and securely store research data, and provide end-user computing support for researchers in the department.

In this role, you will provide IT support services for departmental researchers, including endpoint device support, application troubleshooting, provide researchers with hardware recommendations, etc. Our PC support team (five full-time technicians) support computers that are on both the UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh network.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide IT support services to the Department of Psychiatry research community.

  • Actively participate in technical mentorship by collaborating with intermediate and senior team members.

  • Safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of data and information through physical and electronic security measures.

  • Assist with relocating standard desktop computers and devices as directed by management.

  • Coordinate with the ISD Help Desk to resolve escalated problem requests.

  • Report back to the ISD Help Desk and end users regarding problem status until resolved.

  • Document request status and resolution activities as directed.

  • Follow procedures for documenting PC Support services.

  • Update project management and time tracking tools accordingly.

  • Manage time, tickets, and workload under the direction of leadership.

  • Demonstrate clear, concise, and effective written and oral communication in all interactions.

  • Collaborate with team members, offer feedback, and contribute to group efforts.

  • Adapt to change and remain flexible in your approach.

  • Pursue self-study, training, and stay up-to-date with industry trends.

  • Seek feedback from senior team members and incorporate it into your work.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Familiarity with desktop support and desktop support practices through education or practical experience.

  • Must be willing and able to report for work at various UPMC facilities.

  • Ability to perform basic/standard IT procedures and protocols.

  • Rely on buddy system/coach to demonstrate applied skills and to guide non-routine actions.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk up and down hills, to reach the various end user sites at UPMC. Additionally, this position may be required to maintain a stand by status as part of a rotation within the team.

  • This requires 24 hours per day, 7 days per week availability during the stand by period.

  • The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.
