JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Environmental Advisor.

Reporting to the Section Manager, Nuclear Environment (Licensing Support and Environmental Monitoring Program), the Environmental Advisor role offers a unique opportunity to provide strategic environmental direction. We are seeking an environmental practitioner with applied knowledge in environmental managed systems, programs, and projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to OPG’s public outreach, engagement and education efforts as part of the company’s commitment to growing its social license.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Support Nuclear Environmental Monitoring Programs (per Canadian Standards Association N288.4)

  • Support Nuclear projects and licensing activities, as required

  • Develop, maintain, implement, monitor, and improve performance of environmental managed programs

  • Conduct and coordinate technical and analytical studies on environmental issues and advise senior management on results

  • Oversee and provide support to environmental contracted work and contract workers

  • Liaise and collaborate with regulatory agencies (e.g. CNSC, MECP, etc.), as required

  • Provide support for OPG’s Environmental regulatory deliverables and commitments

  • Participate with other project team members, including consultants, in the preparation and implementation of plans and reports

  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of specialty and environmental legislation

EDUCATION

  • 4-year university degree: Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, or Environmental Health Physics

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment

  • Minimum 4 to 6 years relevant work experience providing support in environmental engineering, environmental studies, and environmental planning and approvals preferred

  • Knowledge of nuclear power generation considered an asset

  • Strong interpersonal skills, as working within a team structure is an essential part of the position

  • Experience with data management, analysis, and verification, including the ability to learn and work with specialized software, is required

  • Ability to create technical presentations for varying audiences also required; strong presentation skills are an asset

  • Demonstrated ability in technical report writing

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with great attention to detail

  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across the company and externally

  • Understanding of environmental matters as related to First Nation communities

  • Experience working with the public and regulatory bodies is an asset

  • Demonstrated experience with provincial and/or federal environmental regulations

  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to develop scopes of work and manage contracts

  • Hold a valid driver’s license
