Microsoft Corporation Strategic Engagement Senior Manager in Phoenix, Arizona

The Datacenter Community Affairs team is part of Microsoft’s datacenter organization – Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) . It supports the growth and operations of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure by creating and managing relationships with local stakeholders, bringing insights and understanding of potential new communities, developing a local community engagement strategy to effectively manage social impact, risks, and opportunities. It also develops a community investment strategy, including social and environmental programs, in communities that host our datacenters.

We are looking for an experienced Strategic Engagement Senior Manager with track record in Community Relations, Stakeholder Engagement and Issues Management to support the Datacenter Community Affairs team globally. The individual in this role will be responsible for developing community engagement strategies, driving strategic projects, and developing global tools to support implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive community engagement models/strategies that can be replicated across regions and communities.

  • Create resources, playbooks and guidelines to support external engagement globally for use by Community Affairs and other CO+I stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with a broad set of CO+I stakeholders, including Land Development, Construction, Engineering, Design, Energy, Government Affairs, End to End, Communications, and Operations teams to support business needs.

  • Develop collaboration opportunities for the Community Affairs Managers and vendors globally.

  • Lead multi-functional and multi-country teams to deliver special Community Affairs projects. Identify, gather, and organize resources across internal teams to deliver results. Present projects, proposals, and results to senior leaders, influencing for support.

  • Collaborate with the Community Affairs regional teams (Americas, Europe-Middle East-Africa and Asia-Pacific) and other CO+I teams to identify gaps, opportunities and deliver action plans.

  • Serve as an advisor to regional community teams on crisis and issue management, delivering immediate corrective and preventive action recommendations.

  • Travel internationally and nationally 25-30%.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Communication, International Relations, Public Affairs or related field AND 6+ years work experience in Community Affairs or Community/Stakeholder Engagement

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Ability to travel 25-30% internationally and nationally

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience directing or driving community engagement related to construction of large-scale infrastructure, buildings, and facilities

  • Experience working on projects that undergo permitting processes

  • Working knowledge of international business practices and experience working in multi-country projects

  • Ability to work across internal groups, managing projects and teams indirectly, marshalling resources toward a common goal, driving for results, and developing strategic recommendations for senior leaders

  • Experience with project/program management with skills aligned to prioritization and creating order out of ambiguity

  • Experience developing strategic plans and driving implementation

  • Track record of Crisis/ Issues management and resolution

  • Track record of organizational Change Management

  • Experience managing contractors, agencies, and/or other third parties

  • Ability to thrive in a multinational environment working across multiple lines of business within a matrixed organization

  • Technical skills with an understanding of Microsoft Cloud offerings

Business Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,200 - $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $142,200 - $213,200 per year.
